Hi Do you have any problems with the SC trait? How do you manage your health problems

SCT is not Anemia. And, it is easier to manage if you will take time to learn some education about it. My son has SCT. He is actually in college and walked on his basketball team this year. I started doing greater research when he told me the coach did not want him to complete the 20 wind sprints? College and pros take the athletes' health very serious at these levels and here is why:

High altitude (Colorado) reduces oxygen in the atmosphere. The reason is was coined SICKLED is because the red blood cells are shaped SICKLED and not getting enough oxygen to flow throughout the body. Anaerobic sports or intense activity like football, basketball, etc. can cause our bodies to need more oxygen which SICKLED cells fail to produce. Tevin Coleman, Atlanta Falcons RB, would not play against Denver a couple years back. It was because he also has the SCT. But, he is still performing at a very high level in the NFL along side Devonta Freeman.

Heat is another concern. Our blood cells need more oxygen in hot weather and the added intensity of exercise do not pair well with the SCT.

The KEY to being successful with SCT is this:

STAY HYDRATED. WATER is the best form. Forget sports drink. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER BEFORE YOU PLAY, WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING and AFTER YOU PLAY. Matter of fact, GO GET SOME WATER NOW and COME BACK AND READ THIS. It is the BEST NOURISHMENT for our BODIES: IT WILL DO YOUR BODY GOOD, BETTER and BEST, NOURISHMENT period.

KNOW YOUR BODY'S SIGNALS WARNING YOU IT IS TIME TO REST. EVERY ATHLETE or PERSON has to REST SOMETIMES. Headaches, chest pains, coughing, extreme exhaustion or fatigue means it is time to rest for awhile. INGESTING ANYTHING that FAVORS DEHYDRATION is not good for us. I drink coffee but it is in moderation. EAT VEGETABLES and LESS SUGARY substances.

Last night, I watched an NBA game: Willie Cauley Stein plays center for the Sacramento Kings. Yes, he has SCT. But, he also is managing his diet and minutes/workouts.

Remember this: Drink plenty of water and recognize when you need to rest. You should be able to lead a normal healthy life.

Thanks for your info but I didn’t say your son has anaemia. Believe me there are people that have the trait that sadly have more health complications than people that have the diesease. You seem to have a lot of information about SCT all of which will help in managing your son’s health. I wish you and your son well.

You and your son share the same trait as the Blood of your Father transfused through Christ. You are a special person and part of a royal family of priest. Your son will live a long life of peace by believing Proverbs 3:1-4.
