Hello Ginatoon61,

Welcome to HealthUnlocked.

Sorry about your grandson's diagnosis.

I can understand the fears and worries that may be going on in your mind now.

However, you have to understand that depsite it's challenges, your grandson can still have a very normal and happy life living with sickle cell.

At this age, there's really not much you can do because the fetal hemoglobin (HbF) is still in his system and it serves as a strong protection against crisis.

I would say it is good he's been diagnosed this early so you have all the time to educate yourself on how to care for your warrior grandson and make him have a happy a life as possible. I did blog about this. If you have time please take a minute and check out how to care for your sickle cell warrior baby at joy2endure.com

Search the net, talk with the drs and join support groups if there are any around you and ask all the questions. Knowledge is our best defense in this fight. A positive approach and love will do your grandson wonders.
