I’m New Here!

I was diagnosed with a rare aggressive uterine cancer in February 2020. Just as COVID-19 arrived...I had surgery March 13, 2020. I’m 63 and have always been very healthy. This was my first surgery in my life. I had to stay home to recover from surgery and to isolate myself from the virus. I took several months to research my cancer, which was either Stage II or III (finally decided upon Stage II), and the available treatments. I learned more about uterine carcinosarcoma than most oncologists ever learn in their entire careers, according to my oncologists.

My tumor was serous carcinoma mixed with chondrosarcoma. Very rare and very nasty. There is no”standard of care” treatment that works reliably with this cancer, so I selected brachytherapy and Care Oncology off-label treatment with Metformin, Atorvastatin, doxycycline, etc. I changed to a mostly plant based diet and learned about supplements like EGCG, curcumin and ginger. I consulted an integrative doctor and learned to use Irvingia and other metabolic activating supplements. I learned to use glucomannan and modified fruit pectin, and I exercise 90 minutes a day indoors, using a Cubii Jr. (seated elliptical) and a LifePro Waver platform for lymphatic circulation

I am still doing research and having a CT scan and blood tests every 90 days. I’m cancer free six months after surgery and feeling stronger every day.

This cancer recurs more often than not. Many recurrences happen in the first six to 12 months. After two years without a recurrence my chances of extended survival go up considerably. So I’m still in the acute treatment phase although I’m happy to be cancer free. If you have a diagnosis of uterine serous carcinoma or any type of carcinosarcoma, please say hello!

Greetings! Congratulations on your survivorship. Your story is inspiring in so many ways especially with how pro active you were in learning as much information about the disease in such short amount of time. I was first diagnosed with uterine cancer 7 years ago and researched as much as I could about the disease. In my search for information I found that there wasn't very much awareness being raised surrounding uterine cancer and couldn't find any support groups specifically for women facing uterine cancer, as I had not known anyone who shared my experience. It became a passion of mine to help support and empower other women and families who experienced this disease. A few years later I stumbled upon SHARE after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, attended support groups and started doing outreach to help raise awareness about breast, ovarian and uterine cancer. In January 2020 SHARE launched its support program for uterine cancer. As of May 2020 I facilitate 3 uterine cancer support groups and coordinate the uterine Helpline. If you or anyone you know that has experienced uterine cancer and would like to attend one of our support groups or call our Helpline with any question please visit the SHARE website at sharecancersupport.org/uter... or call 844-582-6005.

Thanks for sharing information about your journey on our community page.
