Advice on a prophylactic hysterectomy

I have adenocarcinoma of serous papillary - epithelial and am 75 years old and Stage 3c. Even though I am negative BRCA 1 and 2, my oncologist said our two daughters are high risk for getting OV cancer. Should they get hysterectomies prophylactically (if their doctors recommend it)? Their ages are 50 and 45 - planning no more children.

They should have Fallopian tubes out . Not the ovaries. My oncologist says ovarian starts in the Fallopian tube. 60 percent less of a chance of ovarian cancer. I’m trying to convince my daughter to do the same.

Your doctor is not entirely correct. My Ovarian cancer appears to have started in ovaries. Please get a second opinion.

I have had a similar diagnosis as yours and have one daughter who is 48 years old. She is also BRCA negative but has never been able to have children due to endometriosis. She has been advised not to have any surgery yet by her gynecologist.

Please have your daughter get a second opinion. Endometriosis patients have increased risk for Ovarian cancer. My genetic blood tests showed no hereditary gene mutations, but material from my Ovarian tumors revealed acquired (somatic) BRCA1 and HRD+. So, blood gene tests cannot always be relied upon.

Thanks for answering, and I certainly will talk to her about a second opinion. After being in remission for 4 1/2 years, a biopsy of my metastatic nodule was sent to a genetic lab in Arizona, and it came back as the same type of serous cells as before....no BRCA or HER2-3 evidence. Daughter is peri-menopausal, so her gynecologist has really kept an eye on her. So I’m back on the chemo wagon again, but with Doxil/Carboplatin this time. Just had my 4th treatment out of 6. It’s not fun.

My second line which was Carbo/doxil was the hardest for me. MANY side effects. I had 8 month remission after taking it. Just finished 3rd line. Carbo/gemcitabine this time, now going on Olaparib/Lynparza.

The good news about carbo/doxil was that my hair thinned, but I got to keep most of it!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!

Yes! Doxil/Carboplatin has really been so hard on my digestive system and skin. So far, after 3 treatments, the CT scan showed that my 3 mm tumor enlarged a tiny bit, but I didn’t develop any more. I am so disappointed, but maybe I’ll improve more after I’ve finished the whole cycle.
