My mil had her first round of chemo on Monday. She is back in the hospital. She has a lot of fluid in belly and fluid in her lungs. I am not there with her now but planning to see her tomorrow. Could the chemo have made everything worse?

More than likely the chemo did not make it worse. Ovarian causes abdominal fluid. It’s a pain but easily fixed. My mother just had 6.5 liters drained from her abdomen this past Wednesday. If anything the chemo will help slow down the fluid. They may want to draw the fluid out of her lungs if it doesn’t go away on its own, which it can do. Make her do the breathing treatment as much as possible. Make sure they check her lungs for blood clots. If it makes you feel any better, my mother had fluid in her lungs too but thank God it cleared up on its own.

She currently has pulmonary embolisms so she’s on blood thinners; unable to perform surgery so went the chemo route. Not sure which type of chemo. Thank you for this information. Hope your mother is doing better now

PEs are annoying little things. What stage is she? Make her move as much as you can. Mine ya recovering from a stroke because of the clots. What thinner is she on?

They haven’t given a stage bc they haven’t done a biopsy. But I can assume late stage bc of size of stomach and Dr said several tumors and have spread to other organs. I’m not sure which thinner. It’s a shot in stomach 2x per day

Good! It’s probably lovenox. That stuff works great! If you ever want to do any holistic/natural stuff along side of the chemo feel free to ask. My father and I are basically books of knowledge by now. We go to Oasis of Hope Hospital in Mexico for most of her treatment. They are amazing. Definitely keep her away from sugar. I don’t care what doctors say, it’s scientifically proven that sugar feeds cancer.

Yes I’ve heard that as well! She is barely eating or drinking anything now but I will keep reminding her to stay away once her appetite returns. Yes, lovenox, that’s it.

Welcome to the club lol I can’t get mom to drink anything right now and she’s got her first round of Abraxane today. I’m fearful we are going to have to take her to the hospital to get fluids. And the stroke isn’t helping with her lack of strength at all. It’s tough, but hang in there. Pray whenever you can. Talk to other people going through this too, it helps

Emilyj, anti-nausea drugs given prior to chemo cause constipation. The constipation puts further pressure on the entire peritoneal cavity.

Ok as of now she is still in hospital. They cleaned out her intestines yesterday; 4 bags full. Now going to drain lungs today. Will she keep having to back to do this? Fixing the symptoms but can’t fix the source At this time.

EM, Chemo can stop more ascites and lung fluid from accumulating. Sometimes all of that goes away completely after front line chemo. When diagnosed I had large ascites. It was drained before chemo so I could breathe. I've been fighting this for nearly 4 years and the ascites has not come back. :)

No, some people have to get tubes installed to drain fluids. Everyone goes through there own experiences. Hopefully she feels better soon❤❤Liz
