Short term disability

Hi,

Throwing a question out there in hopes that someone may know the answer. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was eligible for short term disability thank goodness. My question is if it comes back will this be considered the same diagnosis? I guess I am asking if anyone knows if short-term disability would cover another round. I was told I would not be eligible for a same diagnosis. Anyone with helpful information please respond. Thank you!

Hi Michelela,

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis.I hope you don’t have a recurrence.I’m assuming that you’re speaking about S.Security Disability benefits.S.Security has a web site that actually gives a lot of information on Disability benefits, and qualifications required.You can also call their 800 number.Some of their telephone agents are actually quite helpful, and knowledgeable .Keep calling some are better than others.Stay strong and positive.

Thanks. I would actually try to get short term through my work again and I would be eligible as long as it wasnt the same diagnosis they said.

Praying you do not have a reoccurence, but know that a second remission is possible. You didn't state what stage your cancer was diagnosed. I was diagnosed as 3b Ovarian Cancer and received permanent SS disability within 2 weeks. Ovarian Cancer Stage 3b-4 automatically qualifies for full disability. You can check their website and call as well; however, their hours and time wait is ridiculous! I actually made an appointment with my local office and they assisted me through the process and other assistant available for me. Good luck, I am a 2 time Survivor and was diagnosed in 2014.

I am celebrating 7 months in remission now and hopefully it never comes back.7

I was covered for same thing.as long as you still have time left it should be no problem. Fml
