A new drug called ONX-0801 is being used in an ongoing clinical trial in the United Kingdom. During phase 1 of the clinical trial, London's Royal Marsden Hospital reported that 7 out of the 10 women had dramatic shrinkage in their tumors.
This drug works by imitating folic acid to enter the cancer cells and once inside it blocks a molecule called thymidylate synthase, causing irreparable DNA damage. The women taking this medicine experienced little to no side-effects because ONX-0901 only targets cancer cells.
This is excellent news! As I go thru my chemo now, I will be hoping this trial has more positive results. I worry about recurrence and this is encouraging that new treatment could be on the horizon. Hope is so important to me!
