CBD oil?

Hello Everyone

I've been doing a bit of research on CBD and hemp oil primarily for bone/joint pain and to aid sleep. Is anybody using it or has any experience of it? I've finished chemo now and have just had first scan since beginning treatment so awaiting results, but I'm hoping to carry on with the herceptin and perjeta infusions I've been having (if they're working!), and I'm supposed to be starting hormone therapy soon (not tamoxifen as I was on that prior to MBC diagnosis).

So in light of my meds is it 'safe'to take CBD? It's a mine field with interactions!

I would appreciate anything you can share to help my decision as to whether to incorporate it into my lifestyle. Many thanks.

Caroline

Hello!

I have been using CBD oil and other cbd edible products since my first diagnosis 3 yrs ago.

I took it to help my anxiety, sleep and pain. I still use it and highly recommend it. I have taken CBD whilst on the following drugs:

Herceptin, Perjeta, Kadcyla, Carboplatin, Paclitaxol, Capcitebine( xeloda), letrozole

I have not had any interactions and I have yet to read/find someone that has. My surgeon and oncologist are aware that I use CBD.

The important thing is to buy a CBD product that has been 3rd party tested for purity and is high quality. Start slow and work up to your preferred dose.

Best,

Kelly

Where is it best to look for a third party tested cbd oil? There are so many out there its confusing x

Find a well regarded local dispensary versus some little store on a corner. Read their websites. Make sure it’s CBD and not just hemp oil. Hemp oil isn’t as effective as CBD for my anxiety and is nasty tasting IMO.

I've often wondered about it for pain and stiffness from meds. I have a few friends who tell me it will help. I once mentioned at the hospital but they didnt seem to want to discuss. I might broach it again or I was thinking of starting on turmeric?? Apparently a few ladies I know from the Haven take it and say it is good. I think I'm pretty nervous of doing something a doctor hasnt told me to or advised me to look at xx

The hospital can’t discuss it because — sadly & illogically — federal law prohibits marijuana. It will jeopardize their federal funding if they openly advocate usage. However several doctors over the years quietly encourage it.

If you’re in a state where it is legal, I recommend it for reasons I state in my other comment. Good luck!

Hi there,

I’ve used CBD and it does really work for pain and anxiety.

However, you must find your “perfect dose”. I don’t know if you want with or without THC. I tried with THC but didn’t like the effects. So, I went back to no THC.

Here in Canada it’s legal now and I actually have a “weed doctor”. Just make sure you’re not taking something that may turn out to be just Mazola oil.

Good luck 😉

Dear Cazlav,

Just a suggestion, but it is best to discuss this with your oncologist. Taking a drug that doesn't interact well with one of your drugs could effect the efficacy of your medication and you don't want that. Best wishes. Blessings, Hannah

Marijuana is legal in MA. It helps to have a medical marijuana card though because you don’t pay sales tax. Recreational uses pay sales tax

With my doctor’s approval, I use low THC tincture. The CBD dosage is fine for me as I don’t like feeling high even a little. I take a droplet under my tongue when I can’t sleep or am especially anxious. I’ve taken it for 2 years as the need arises.

I go to a local dispensary. The staff is very solicitous. They listen to what you need & ask good questions. I recommend it.

I used CBD oil, medical grade prescribed by my doctor for a year. I found it did nothing for my pain or sleep. For pain I personally believe it has to have some thc in it. I’m in Canada so it is legal (although medical was legal for quite some time. )

Discuss this with your onc before starting because everyone is different.

Hi Caroline,

I take CBD oil, I find it really helps with my anxiety. When I asked my oncologist about it, he said it's been proven to help with pain relief and he has nothing against me taking it.

Unfortunately I can't really recommend any specific one as I've only recently started taking it (still looking for my perfect one!) There are so many out there. Let me know how you get on.

Sending warm thoughts,

Faye

I received a sample of Medterra CBD pain cream in a virtual event swag-bag that came in the mail. Has anyone had any experience with that? It says it has 60 mg CBD (also has Arnica and Menthol as major ingredients).

I'm a bit unclear of CBD vs THC, and OTC vs prescribed ...

it’s the thc in cbd that can get you high but I have medical marijuana and was told you need a little thc with cbd to really help with pain and sleep however there is a thca that does not get you high so that with the cbd can help with both 🤷‍♀️ it does help me sleep and a bit for pain

My oncology nurse said that CBD oil is fine....I take it for the neuropathy caused by the chemo drugs...it may help a little!

Hi Cazlav,

I quite often take a cbd pill at bed time. It does seem to make me feel peaceful. I have tried to read and understand the research about cannabis but it is all over my head. So I will just assume it is helping me. Have you read Dr. Joe Dispenza's book We are the Placebo. If you believe something is working it is likely going to help you. I enjoy his theory and do think there is a lot of evidence that positive thinking and believing is very powerful and healing.

Many health gurus support Dr. Dispenza's belief that we have an inner cannabinoid system that we can access through meditation to activate healing. However just taking a cbd pill might have the same effect. Just don't know. Stay happy. Hugs Marlene
