One year down - PET scan results

Iwasborntodothis profile image

After getting sky-high Tumor markers despite CT scans of my chest showing marked improvement, my doc ordered a PET scan. I just have to say he is the BEST - scan was at 8 am and he called me at almost 7 pm with results.

The only new thing they found were some hip mets and a possible fracture. He started the call by asking if I had pain I hadn't told him about - ummm yes, oops. Here I thought I simply had arthritis. So, I will get an MRI to check.

Celebrating this may same strange but my imagination had gone wild with all of the other possibilities.

I am wondering if there are options to full hip surgery that anyone has used. I'm 56 and having a hip surgery doesn't sound pleasant as I am super active.

I had two partial hip replacements within 3 weeks time period. That is also how I found out about the MBC. Although I would not want to have to go through that again, I can tell you that the recovery was not too difficult. I did go to an orthopedic recovery hospital for about two weeks with both surgeries and made sure I did all the exercises and more if I possibly could. I am 69 and that was almost 2 years ago. I now walk long distances, swim, and ride a stationary bike so the surgeries did not slow me down.

Wishing you the best,

Audrey

Hello!

Just to let you know that my mom, while in her 90's had two separate hip surgeries. The first one failed with pins and plates. The second one, a full hip replacement, was successful in that she was able to continue to walk. At that age, the surgery prevented her from spending the remainder of her life in a wheel chair if she had opted out. I guess my point is that, if a 90 plus patient can do it, so can anyone! God bless you and good luck!

Thank you I know there are much worse things to worry about. I have no idea how I can have a fractured hip and not know it.

I don’t want to make it sound like a cake walk. Any surgery takes recovery time. Also so amazing how we can all shrug off pain sometimes and just figure it’s aging or arthritis!

Hope you do well!! 🥰🥰

I thought the same. I have 4 fractures to my pelvis. How is this possible when I can still walk and drive my car? The fractures are called unsubstantiated fractures and happen because of bone weakness.

Wishing you well, Cheers, June S.

Is it possible they could do radiation? This is way out of my knowledge, but I do know they sometimes do radiation for bone mets. Good luck with getting pain relief. Blessings, Hannah

I am starting radiation tomorrow - 5 rounds on my hip. I saw my hip MRI. The top of femur is basically all cancer thru the marrow. They are treating me like some kind of freak because I am really not in that much pain and I have been exercising - went skiing in March...I am a little freaked by the image. I guess we'll see how it goes.

I don’t have any knowledge of the treatment you can expect going forward. But I did want to say that your optimistic approach is wonderful to read. I think before every scan we prepare ourselves for the worst but hope and pray for the best. Celebrate away.
