Do you live on the Vineyard? Love Cap Cod. Love driving thru the dunes outside PTown. Haven’t been in years

in reply to nstonerocks

Nope. I live in a suburb of Boston. I’ve always loved Martha’s Vineyard so I chose that name when I joined this site. There is wonderful cycling there, especially the path that runs by the ocean from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown

I stayed at a B&B in oak bluffs a long time ago right near the water. Big old house. Maybe called Oak House.

Beautiful. Looks like a lake. Enjoy your bike rides. Blessings, Hannah

I asked Alexa the difference between a lake and a pond. She says it is subject to debate! :)

She got both of us. Hahaha. Blessings, Hannah

Beautiful. Great spot for a picnic too.

Doesn’t an ebike open up a whole new world?!!!

Still rubbish weather in the uk, but I might brave it today

Clare - It makes my cycling horizons so much broader than my road bike. I still enjoy my road bike for flat trails. But there is a hill to get out of our neighborhood and other hills in nearby towns. It is such a pleasure to venture out and explore new roads without having to worry about getting back up a hill!

What is an ebike?

in reply to

It is a pedal assist electric bike. It is not a moped. I still have to pedal. But it has gears that make hills so much more manageable!

What beautiful scenery! Wonderful to bike by and stop and relax.

Oh, wow, you all make me crazy with jealousy when I see the pics of where you bike!! My one hour daily ride is very, very boring...My podcasts are the only thing that get me through it!! But your view really is beautiful, thank you for sharing, I'll try to keep it in my mind as ride through the grid of my neighborhood!

in reply to

Ah, yes, that's why I went ahead and bought the e bike. It expands where I can ride and makes hills so much more manageable.

Hi Martha,

What a lovely, serene picture! I bet you have hours of enjoyment on your ebike.

Just beautiful!

An ebike is an electric bicycle. I’m contemplating purchasing one. Any wisdom on that issue?

I love my e-bike... bought it just when lockdown was starting in the U.K.and it has made a real difference to getting out and exercising. Expensive when compared to a standard bicycle , but great for us ladies with bone mets ...or not as energetic as we used to be , but wanting to exercise!

Sarcie, it’s a pedal assist bike ... you plug it into an electric socket at home to charge up the battery .( which is attached to the bike frame ).Then you have four options as to how much help with pedalling you need ,eg .,up a steep hill, I use “turbo” power , otherwise “tour mode “, or if energetic or going down a hill, you can switch the power assist off and cycle as normal.

Lali, mine is a Cube e-bike with a Bosch battery , and it has easy entry (no bar across the middle of the frame to climb over ) There are lots on the market , but I can recommend this one (thanks to Sandra , who first recommended it to me !) x

Thanks so much! I will look into that brand.

Lali - I bought a Cannondale Neo. The e bike is designed like a hybrid bike. The battery has a key lock on it so it can't be easily taken by a thief. The battery is on part of the frame. I tend to leave the battery on since we have an outlet in the garage where I can easily recharge it. I find that if I ride 15-20 miles, I have to recharge about every third time which is very easy.

I recommend you make sure you test ride a bike that you consider on a road with a hill. When you click into the electric gear assist, you should be able to notice it. I am so glad I double checked on a hill for the first e bike I considered buying. It did not have enough of a noticeable difference to help up the hill.

I did not go for the big fat tires. I prefer the regular tire style. When I detach the battery, my bike weighs about 35 pounds. Last week I tried putting it on my car's bike rack for the first time. It is heavy, but once I got it onto the rack, I was able to "walk it back" toward the right rung for the rack.

Feel free to ask again if you have any more questions please!

If you wish to see a pic of this bike, look back at my post a month ago ,(3 posts back) , titled “sending love to Sandra”. There are lots to choose from , but ‘easy entry ‘ is a particularly useful feature for ladies on here . x

As a follow up, it appears there are no Cube bike dealers in the U.S.

in reply to LaliChicago

Lali - I have the Cannondale Neo. After hearing me rave all last summer, my husband bought a Trek e bike. We live in the US so those are brands to recommend.

FYI, I've read the inventory on bikes in the US is low because so many of us don't want to go to an indoor gym. Biking outside is safer. If you find one you like, go for it!
