We live in a somewhat “rural” suburb. You can walk you dog and be acres away.

Lucky you. But the Mayor said only go out if necessary. Governor Cuomo stated that in US New York has the highest number thus far of people infected. I am not going out today (decided to do my laundry) but if it is nice tomorrow, I am getting out and going shopping. Its too beautiful out and its just about being safe and comfortable. Glad that I was able to buy a box of 100 gloves so using now to go down an do laundry.

Boy, how quickly life can change in an instant.

Hard to keep up with things. Just got a big grocery delivery. The next delivery time slot is in April. There’s always peanut butter. I can eat it straight from the jar with a spoon. No double dipping!

LOL. I lucked out in two ways. I had been stuck in my apt. for weeks because I could not walk even a few feet with my lower back giving out and causing me so much pain, I would be in tears. I had to stop ever 1/2 block (and I do not drive nor do I have any family, and I have no friends that still live in Brooklyn) so I have no choice.

I broke down in my onco's office about a month and a half ago and told her I can't continue to live like this. I can't even walk 1/2 block without having to find a building or a fire hydrant or a lamp post that I can lean my back on, continue to walk and then be in tears ago so I just gave up going out.

She finally referred me to the pain specialist who thankfully gives me 90 10 mg. of percocet to take 3x per day plus 3mg of gabapentin to take, plus some kind of cream to put on my back. I was also supposed to start physical therapy but went once, and noticed what I thought was lack of cleanliness but I was going to continue to go but then the virus thing started getting more news so I had two visits the next week and cancelled them.

So finally now that I have pain medication and nerve medication to take, I can finally get out of the apt. (the first thing I did was take a bus and go shopping at an Italian specialty store that makes fresh food, such as lasagna, spaghetti with clams, eggplant rollatini, meatballs, beef stew and they prewrap it containers. I spent close to $200, froze most as I live alone. It felt so good to get out and be able to walk and not be in pain that I was just so happy.

I then decided to order some stuff off of peapod (cleaning products, etc.) bc I cannot drive, I cant buy large items otherwise it would fill my wagon and that would be all I could buy.

So I went to Peapod and was shocked to see that the earliest I could get delivery was four days. Never seen that so realized Uh oh. I bought hand wipes, face wipes, Bounty and since I only had 7 rolls of TP, Peapod had Scotts (the only brand I will use) on sale with 20 packs of TP so I ordered them.

I ordered 25 bottles of Peapod Water ($3.00) and 9 jugs of gatorade which were $1.00 each. I got more cleaning products also and sponges. Not really any food though.

So I am kind of stocked up on most stuff I will need and that was just kind of luck bc I see now Peapod is even more booked. I guess people are afraid to go to the supermarket and when I went shopping, people were still working in Manhattan.

Now that most are home, the stores will be all packed again so I am good for at least a week, maybe two so I feel lucky.

Just ironic that I had about one week of being able to go out again with feeling pain and it felt so good only for this now so back stuck in apt. for a short time anyway. It is hard to be alone and I have done so for so many weeks that I was raring to get out. I will go out but just be extra careful.

That is awful that you had the pain so long without any help. The pain meds are wonderful. So happy that you finally have relief. Sounds like your L L is doing some renos. Nice new pool adds value to the building and the laundry room. Now being able to get out will change your mood and hopefully you will meet some people even if you can't get too close. Wishing you all the best.

Cheers, June S.

Yes I took my dog out saw 3 people but didnt get too close so that's good, was nice to get some fresh air

Hi Kiera,

Are you on chemotherapy? I have not been told to socially isolate myself, just to be careful and stay home if I exhibit symptoms. I hope I am not stuck indoors, as I run a pet sitting and dog walking business. I stay away from other dog walkers anyway, so I know that helps. It's going to really hit me hard if I have to stay home. I want to at least have one thing remain consistent and that is my work. I have only had one cancellation so far, and hopefully that's all.

I am sure the owners would prefer to pay somebody else to go outside and do their walking of dogs so hopefully your business will not suffer. Even those who work from home still are working so hopefully your services will continue to be needed. It sounds like fun although I am sure it can get crazy.

Thank you. That is my hope too. I just want to try and carry on as normal. Clients' dogs are used to their routine too, and would find it hard if they had to stay indoors. June will mark 8 years since I set up my business. I love it!

No that's what I cant understand I am on ibrance and feeling well, I dont see what the problem is with me going out. They want me to stay locked up but my sons college is still open so it's possible he could bring it home makes no sense. I am still getting exercise taking dog out and fresh air in my lungs

I don’t think they mean that you can’t go outside, but to stay away from people. Going outside for a walk is good for all of us. Your son’s college still being open is a problem because he could bring it home to you. Make sure he washes his hands when he first comes in the house. Does he live with you and commute daily? If he lives at school he should stay there. All of our schools are now closed until the end of April so kids are home with their parents. I think it is going to be a problem keeping teens away from their friends, but if they are living with an immunosuppressed person they should.

Yes he does with me and goes to college 3 days a week he washes his hands as soon as he gets home

I heard that on TV ie anyone considered high risk will be getting letter, im guessing its about the 12 week isolation thing. I am lucky I can work from home but my husband still has to go out. hes an HGV driver delivering to every Tom Dick and harry so thats a worry but not sure theres anything we can do about it. He showers and changes when he comes home and follows all the other hygiene stuff. I think maybe its a good idea if I move out of our bedroom. better excuse than headache 😂. My sons in the Police so hes out n about but staying mostly at his girlfriends house. We're regularly wiping handles, toilet flushes etc so dont think theres much more we can do. got to live havent we. Xx

As long as you are away from people, you can walk your dog. Excercise and fresh air is important for everyone.

I too am beginning to self isolate and make new arrangements as the number of cases in the U.K. escalates ( tho ‘ so far only 2 reported cases in my town , but there may be many more not identified ?!) As I am on Ibrance and my wbc are therefore affected , my immune system isn’t as strong as others to fight off a virus . I will however go out for cycles in the countryside nearby ...but not mix with the public , apart from any essential health appointments . My holiday in the Lakes in 3 weeks time has been postponed till the summer , which my holiday company has thankfully allowed us to do .

I have rung my ‘team ‘and brought my 8 month ct scan forward from April to tomorrow pm ,tho‘ my follow up is still late April ,albeit now via ‘virtual clinic’ with my onc . I have postponed my post Breast surgery follow up with my surgeon for 3 months time , as it’s non urgent . Now I am just hoping I can have 2 or 3 months supply of ibrance when I have my bloods checked at my oncology unit on 30 March , which I have requested .

I have even brought my hairdressers forward to tomorrow am ( highlights ) as I imagine that I won’t be having hair appointments for 3 months . We are moving my elderly mum in with my retired brother and sister in law in a small country village for the next few months , so that she is protected and cared for . Daughter is coming home from uni at the weekend and all her classes will be online for the rest of the academic year .

The biggest issue I have for isolating , is my husband , who works for himself as an agent , importing confectionery from Spain for a big U.K. supermarket , as he has to still go to meetings and resolve issues , such as increasing production to meet shoppers demands . Yesterday he arranged for his Spanish manufacturer to ‘ship ‘products from Bilbao to U.K. instead of ‘trucking ‘the products over as before , and despite the massive problems currently over in Spain , they are continuing to find ways to meet the increased demand from big supermarkets !

It’s like a big war effort ... or as one of the ministers said , ‘ a health war !’

Take care everyone on here and we’ll pull through ! x

I am still waiting for my onc to ring shes been stuck in meetings I guess theres a lot to talk about. We have 5 cases now so hopefully staying safe staying away from people. My son works at butlins that has now shut till at least middle of April.

I live in an apt. building but live on Ocean Parkway which for the entire length (which is long) it has sitting benches on one side and then a metal bar for the other side for bike riders and roller skaters. So there are so many benches that you can just sit outside and breathe without being on top of each other. Many of the elderly here in my building with aides sit out on the benches people watching and now I will be doing it also LOL...

I wish I had a backyard. I would love to be able to sit in a backyard. We have an in-ground brand new swimming Pool (they just redid a whole new one last year so). They have also a small gated area that has several trees and cement tables so people at pool area and smoke and eat (no eating or smoking around pool area).

I have NOT used the pool in about 10 years. I refuse to get into a bathing suit plus all these cliques of ladies sit together and talk about the other cliques of ladies LOL...all retired or with husband deceased and lots of money. I live in a very wealthy neighborhood but I am only a renter in this building. My LL owns this apartment PLUS her own corner apt. on another floor.

My gas and electric (and we have central air in the summer and I have a dishwasher in my apt.) are included in my rent. I only pay $1,325 and like my friend said it would cost me close to $1,600 to rent an apt. now in Brooklyn PLUS I would have to pay utilities. the downside is that my LL makes no repairs and now I refuse to spend a penny of my money on doing any renovations like painting, etc.

She does not fix anything and she knows if I were to leave, she would have to spend thousands to fix this apt. up and it would not be easy to sell bc it i is a junior one-bedroom and when she lived here, she knocked down the wall so basically it is a large super-sized studio although in my bed alcove, I have a queen sized bed two night stands and a large dresser.

we have a beautiful laundry room they just did last year again. So all brand new machines and a bathroom down even, even central air.

Once that central air gets turned on, I put it on and never turn it off bc hey I dont pay electric.

My LL would not only have to spend thousand renovating but to get in here even as a renter, the coop board does an investigation of all finances and they can turn down anybody. Even if you want to sell, it is up to them to approve and they dont allow the owners of these apts. to just lower their price so that they can sell quickly bc then it lowers the value of all the other apartments. So although my LL and I do not really like each other (I have lived here 25 years, it is a situation that works for both of us.)'
