Hope to live long enough to get that treatment. Once in a while I think about how I’d feel if I was told “you are cancer free.” It would be overwhelming.

Quite. An astonishing thought.

That's how I feel too. Whenever I see a Cancer Research ad where a cancer patient is told they are "cancer free" I long to hear those words.

Yes, but many stage iv women that I have come across on various stage iv breast cancer forum boards when they were stage ii or stage iii and went through the chemo, radiation and removal of breast and were told they were cancer free only to find out almost 5, 10 or more years later, that they have stage iv in internal organs so apparently there are cancer cells that lay dormant for many years and then wake up again.

So I think even those that are told they are cancer free, are never really cancer free. I, of course, did not mention this to my two friends that both had breast cancer (not stage iv) and did the whole chemo, radiation and mastectomies and were told they are now cancer free. One friend was so scared by her stage ii diagnosis, she wanted both breasts off (not realizing you can still get stage iv breast cancer even without breasts (see Holly Kitchen video)).

The doctor told her there was no reason to take off her left breast as that was "overkill" but she insisted so he did it. I think many women believe no breasts equal no breast cancer which is not the case, but I do not tell them that.

Read this yesterday

Promising but not yet tested on humans...if it works it’ll take about 8 years to become available...too late for me!

Sorry to seem negative but that’s the reality

Yes, I get it's not imminent. Exciting nonetheless though, and not just of itself but as one of lots of stories about breakthroughs in the last year. I hope we'll all be around to reap the benefits x
