Ladies, I am overjoyed! After a year of trial & error, changing meds, meds strength and changing inhibitors, we finally hit on a winning combination! I started 75 mg Ibrance last night - every other day and dropped my inhibitor to 10 mg every day - started 4 days ago. I slept like a baby, woke once with minor pain and woke up this AM with what I consider good pain in the area where my last tiny tumor is located in my chest wall (doctor said that's the med killing the cancer)! Joint pain is manageable- not so severe that I want to cry like in the past! I can do this! We will do a PET SCAN in December to check on the results. I'm told that if I can't handle this combination, my Oncologist wants to send me for radiation to the last tiny spot on left chest wall and on the area where I had a tumor on the right lung (no visible sign of it at all in my last PET SCAN and told there is no way to get a biopsy now because it's gone!). My Oncologist now is convinced that the right lung was also part of my recurrence spreading because my treatment made it disappear.
I told my Oncologist that I have faith that we will get to NED - that I'll stay on the meds as long as I can live with an acceptable level of side effects. But that quality of life is very important to me over quantity! Yep, I'm a challenge. I also told him that I have faith we will beat this completely. If I can't handle the meds eventually, I will do the radiation and just be monitored. But I also believe that the newest treatment the Mayo clinic has (just read an article about 3 new vaccines that kill breast cancer and continue to kill it with no serious side effects) will be available when needed, even if only in Europe soon. Our FDA requires 8 years of studies! European cancer clinics have been doing cutting edge treatments for decades with amazing results. So no doubt they will have the vaccines before we will. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
