Information and advice on Bras

Hello,

I was wondering what information you ladies received in terms of post-surgery bras. Who did you speak to about this and were you referred to specific shops? Do you think they were worth going to or is somewhere like M&S also ok??

Hi there

Well it’s a long time since I had surgery but I found a sports bra the best

I did go to m&s and asked to be fitted and explained I’d had surgery and they more or less refused..I left the shop almost in tears so not happy with their attitude..maybe they’ve changed their policy but I felt insulted I was feeling vulnerable anyway so that made me feel as if I was some sort of freak

I didn’t get much info after surgery, but did find that Coobie sport bras are awesome. Very comfortable and come with removable padding. You can quite often find great coupons on them in different magazines as well. They normally sell for $22 each.

I'm glad you like them. I wear them exclusively, no more underwire for me!

So sorry to hear you're in pain. I had a hard time in March and April, the pain was relentless and I could barely function. I started using CBD oil and it has helped a lot, I now only take Advil occasionally.

How long have you been riding? Our neighbors have a horse farm and my daughter loves to ride, so I can only imagine how hard it is for you to not be able to do something you love. Hopefully, you will have some relief soon.

I’ve been riding for about 55 years!!!

Not planning to give up yet!!

I’ve been for a shiatsu massage this afternoon..never had one before..absolutely amazing..feel no pain at the moment but I expect will be sore tomorrow but don’t care if it improves eventually..she said my muscles were like concrete as I’d been ‘holding’ them to protect the broken vertebrae..made sense

She also complemented me on being so strong and supple!!.. I thought I must have lost most of my muscle tone..maybe not

Anyway time will tell..I’ll be happy just with a decrease in pain so I can enjoy life

I’ve ordered a book called ‘radical remission ‘..stories to uplift

I'm glad your massage went well. I have ordered Radical Remission too. I haven't started reading it yet though, but it looks inspiring. It's just what we need, don't you think?

I was impressed with the massage..wasn’t sure what to expect..just nice to be cared for and feel a bit special!

This book apparently isn’t like some of the mad stuff you see but written by a doctor who interviewed patients in remission against what their prognosis was..anyway will see what it’s like..let me know what you think of it

I will certainly let you know what I think of the book. It will make a change to read a book written by a doctor about cancer patients' experiences. I read a post on here earlier with a link that I wish I had not clicked on because it contained survivorship statistics. I do my best to stay away from such articles.

Dressage or English? What type of horse do you have?

I live for my massages, they also help with pain.

I am trying to incorporate some of the suggestions of Radical Remission into my lifestyle.

I worse a sports type bra, no shaped cups or underwiring, that I got in Target. I bought 2 of them. They worked well. Didn't spend a whole lot.

I had just a lumpectomy and found camisoles the most comfortable to wear while the incision was still healing. I am large busted and was suprised that worked out so well. I did go to a specialty bra place -- I think I was given info about it by the surgeon or onc. It was awhile ago. I found the specialty place really helpful. With a mastectomy, you can ask your surgeon or onc for an Rx for a bra and alot of insurance will help pay for a couple of bras, I forget just how many.

After surgery bra that was best for me was a soft bra with front sna ps. I think an over the head type bra would have been hard to do.

Now l have stage IV cancer with Mets, having lost so much weight and having had surgeries l don't have much breast left at all. The cookie bras are wonderful, comfortable and look great! The size small fits me but the medium size is more comfortable if I'm having chest pain and look just as good.

My little grandson discovered the pads and now some of those are lost lol

I am big busted and had a right mastectomy , axillary clearance and reconstruction at same time and my fav bra was the Royce ; Silver Post surgery front fastening bra with poppers and adjustable front opening straps .I ordered it from John Lewis as they give Breast cancer surgery patients 20% VAT off ( just go through their customer services). It was around £30 but I felt it was worth it as comfortable and practical and I wore it for many months . Many ladies just go for soft cotton bras which probably are ok for most surgeries . I now wear the M & S post surgery sports bra for my exercise classes (black /pink with front zip opening ) which is comfortable for now but would have been difficult to put on just after my surgeries. Hope you find one that suits x

Hi Barb ! How are you doing ? I bought my post surgery sports bra at M and S but I can’t comment on their fitting service as I sorted myself out in the fitting rooms !! But I did get the 20% VAT off at the customer service till for Breast cancer surgery ladies . My favourite bra shop and fitting facilities is Bravissimo which I go to for normal bras in Leeds . I always had problems finding a good fit , with a small back and big breasts... But my requirements have now changed ! x

I had a bi lateral mastectomy and did not have reconstruction for two years. kaiser!! Anyway Nordstrom’s was a big help for me. They have people trained to help you.

I had a left sided mastectomy/ I got some knitted knocker's and a genie bra until my insurance sent to a specialist for mastectomy bra and prosthesis

I had a bilateral 21 years ago then in 2015 I had revisions. Both times the hospital gave me bras to wear for 6 weeks but I also researched and found a couple one piece snap under crotch items which I found really comfortable and slimming. So win win. Just nonunderwires! And still I try to avoid underwire bras as the inhibit the immune cells under breasts. God knows we need those working probably!!
