Good morning, getting ready to leave for New York to celebrate my 60th birthday with family, another trip crossed off my bucket list!! A little concerned about the time change, but I think I'll be fine..taking the medication with me and leaving the cancer in San Diego!!!

Your always so kind to everyone, I hope you are doing well. Are you planning anything? Where do you want to travel to?

Hi Clair

Travel has been a big coping mechanism for me. In August I went to Ireland which was so amazing and beautiful. Last time I was there I was thin and in my 20s. Also spent a week w a girlfriend in the White Mountains of NH, which is also a beautiful, peaceful spot I love. Great to get away with a friend. I think I’ll slow it down a little due to money and the urge to just relax more, but wondering if next spring would be a good time to revisit London and do what I didn’t do when I was there last. I work in a school so get holidays off. Spending a long weekend in Woodstock NY in November. Very laid back and colorful vibe. There are projects to do around the house that aren’t getting done though . I’m stable, meaning Mets in both lungs, nothing new, a few grew a little and I am on faslodex instead of letrozole. I remember how utterly messed up I was when I was diagnosed, so I never want anyone to be alone feeling anxious or scared. This board helps me. Connecting with so many (great) people makes me feel not so all alone in this. It can be isolating functioning in the land of the worried well with mbc.

I agree this board keeps me sane, thank you for good wishes.

You have in both lungs, I remember. I have mets to only right lung so far but have at times breathing difficulties. Do you ever have problems with that? My oncologist said because of the plural effusion. Wow you work full time, I’m just so darn tired and why I don’t understand. I mean it’s not like I have it in my other lung. You must be younger, I guess I’m just old and wore out or depressed. I wish we could travel more but my medical bills are crazy. We use our rental property to stay a float in bills. Want to sell but this disease never goes away and neither do my bills. I get my medicine payed but between the Dr. and all my blood work is about 1k a month which does not include scans. Plus my husband has MS, so his meds are crazy. Oh well enough complaining. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Clair, I don’t know how u and your husband do it. I am not young. 64. I usually have no breathing problems. My O2 Sats are good. I work for the great insurance and because I haven’t figured out how retirement would go financially. We are comfortable and my husband makes a decent salary but his insurance is not as good as mine. I have been spending a lot of money traveling and am bottoming out the money I had to redo my kitchen. I am overweight and lately eating too many carbs. Did have a green juice today, which I swear by. Depression? Dealt with it on and off since my 20s. Anxiety too. I am highly functional but I credit a lot of that to the nuns at Catholic school. Lots of (at times unreasonable) discipline. So my baseline is a little wobbly. I am tired when I get home. I don’t want to clean, and this year I came out and told my husband, who has a horrible commute, that I don’t want to cook anymore. I do sometimes, very basic. I am trying not to come home and nap. It’s the worst. Then I stay up late and the alarm goes off at 530. The bills from this disease are crazy and I worry about affording Ibrance on Medicaid cause I won’t retire with health benefits. It can drain the bank quickly. So not to belabor my problems, I am trying to figure out how to break the pattern of working and sleeping and, I must confess, sometimes watching too much tv. My shrink likens it to a drug. I’d be more productive taking Xanax and vacuuming! That’s where meditation comes in for me cause when I do it, I feel solid and centered. So, don’t underestimate how much you do accomplish. We are like Hercules moving that big boulder up the mountain. Sometimes it slides back and we have to start all over again. And we do because we want to live and we want our lives to have meaning and joy. I think that’s where appreciating the little pleasurable details in every day come in. I better stop because I feel a sermon coming on! 😳

You have helped me too with feeling hopeful regarding the future. I want to travel next spring hopefully. My lung mets are stable after first 3 months taking Xelota. I hoped they would be decreased but the oncologist was pleased to see they were stable. My symptoms are way better and she said she was more concerned with that. I am driving, cooking but still experience shortness of breath with a lot of walking. Still, nice to be getting back to normal

Celebrate stable! I’m short of breath climbing. But I don’t exercise. I walked all over Ireland and sat out when I had to. Drink green juice. Find your joy and live it every day! Good luck 👍🍀

Spending time with my family and go ing to the 911 memorial and a play.

I worked in an ER 1 mile north of the WTC on 9/11. Part of the reason I’m in NJ now in a small quiet town. I can’t bring myself to go the memorial. I’m sure it will be very powerful.

I am sure it will be very moving. I’ll never forget the day and weeks around it. I worked in Manhattan and lived in Brooklyn. What went on was surreal. I am so sorry about your uncle and your cousin.

Enjoy! I live 40 minutes outside Manhattan and my husband and I go in often. Love the plays and especially the food! I am too crossing a lot of destinations off my bucket list soon. Grand Canyon, Sedona and Vegas the end of October. Europe, London and Paris next April.

Paris is so beautiful. When you go, take the boat ride down the Seine at night. All the lights twinkling from the gorgeous buildings. The Eiffel Tower twinkles ever hour in the dark for several minutes. You’ll pinch yourself.

We’re actually taking a ten night cruise down the river stopping at all the sites ending in Normandy. I really wanted to stop at Lourdes... next trip.

It is very powerful. Hope you’ll have a guide to the beaches. American Cemetery impressive. They love Americans in Normandy. They haven’t forgotten. Evidence of the war all over the place. My Dad also served in WII. An amazing generation. 🙏

Definitely a small world, I’m leaving San Diego on Tuesday for upstate NY to visit family, meet my new grand-niece and to have an early thanksgiving. Always wanted to see the Panama Canal but afraid to leave the US so instead doing a tour of the Erie Canal, should be beautiful. Can’t wait to hear about your trip, have wanted to see the 911 Memorial but worried about the walking. Got my medicine, purel and masks packed 😃

Have a WONDERFUL time and make plenty of memories.
