Depends on why it is low partially. Are you doing chemo? Or you on Ibrance or similar drug?

The wife is taking Ibrance

WBC ‘s take a big hit. But they are nature white cells. Keep tabs on the newly produced white cells in bone marrow, neutrophils. It is important that they bounce back up to close to normal range on week off. I too will look into astragalus.

So sorry but this is a long and tough process. I am assuming your wife is on Ibrance. If not, when she stops chemo it will come back up after quite a while. Mine never returned to high original but became stable in normal range about 6 weeks after completing chemo IV.

Hi, deanlo,

I take daily supplements of astragalus and Vitamin A. Both of these are supposed to be immunity boosters. My WBC has dropped since I started taking Ibrance this past December, and I have had my dosage recently lowered to 100 from 125. Apparently studies have shown lower dosage is no less effective, so this is another way to help boost the WBC.

God bless you on this journey! XO Linda

Thanks to you all my wife has bone mets diagnosed Jan 2018 she started on the high dose after 1 month got dropped to 100 and she just scraping over the line every month but has been told this morning to have a week break was just curious if we could raise the WBC count.Think we might try Astragalus got nothing to lose.

Thanks again everyone.

not sure about the astragalus. Look into the Slone Kettering herb/drug interaction site. A wealth of information. With that said, I do see a Chinese doctor in addition to my medical oncologist and I am given a mushroom supplement drink which would be similar but more than astragalus, so I'm just saying----. How old is your wife?

I would suggest you see if you can find an alternative doc, in addition to your medical oncologists, Chinese trained in educated in mainland China for additional support. ARe you in England? I have a best friend who is from the lake district and owns a pub there, a good friend in London and my youngest son attended Oxford and spent a summer educating in Inverness. We love UK.

I was diagnosed young as well, at 48 years old, had a bilateral mastectomy, IV chemo, radiation. That was in 1998. I had been in remission for 20 years and diagnosed with spread the same time as your wife. I am planning on going into remission again!! It does happen every day to people with this late stage cancer. Life is not as it was many years ago and there are lots of new treatments. I also have changed my lifestyle and diet. Have her look into tapping on you tube and energy work. They are VERY helpful and beneficial. I will give you more info later. On the run

Turkey Tail mushroom capsules have kept my white count up on both chemo and Ibrance. 3 grams 2 times a day. There was a phase 1 study on this that showed that dose worked better than half that dose, so you really need more than 3 grams a day. 9 grams a day worked too, but not significantly better than the 6 gram dose. The study was with TT mushrooms and taxol but it worked for me on taxol, adriamycin, xeloda, navelbine and now on Ibrance.
