Good morning everyone. Had my mastectomy in Tuesday. Am nervous about seeing site for first time. Any suggestions on how to deal with it? I know I have to put my "big girl panties" on and deal with it.

It just helps to hear from other who have been through this before me.

Thank you!

I am scheduled to have mine March 9th. How are you feeling? How is the pain and do you have the tissue expanders?

I actually do not feel too bad. Am waiting til after radiation to have reconstruction. Things happened quickly for me. Diagnosed onFebruary 9 and mastectomy on February 22. You are probably pretty independent like me. My advice is to let people wait on you and help you. My family has been great. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. We are all in this together.

I did my biopsy 2/14, mammo 2/17 and having the surgery 3/9. I'm not freaked out about cancer just more of how I will feel afterwards. I'm very independent and don't know how I will deal with it all

Just take a deep breath. It might help to look at other women's mastectomy scars on the internet. I don't think it will be as bad as you imagine it would. Let yourself feel whatever you're feeling. I remember thinking that with the reconstruction, I looked like a Barbie doll on one side.

Thank you. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. They left some skin for reconstruction. My daughter joked that I still have more than she does😀

Thanks again. You all are awesome

Hi,

After my bilateral mastectomy my doctor said that it was important to touch the incision. I have provided a link to an article from the Cleveland Clinic about the importance of touching your incision after a mastectomy.
