Research Participants Require for my Study:

Hello All,

I am doctorate student of Counselling Psychology and Existential Psychotherapy at NSPC, Middlesex University London. I am conducting study on ‘Experience of living with Systemic Sclerosis: A phenomenological Inquiry”.

The study is being carried out as part of my studies with NSPC Ltd and Middlesex University. My research interest in this topic is due to my personal experience of living with systemic sclerosis since last 4 years. As I know that living with systemic sclerosis is challenging as it affects every aspect of life from family relationships to holding a job. My aims and objective to conduct this study are: to explore the experience; understand the existential issues in people living with systemic sclerosis and how they confront with their crisis; to understand about the impact of Systemic Sclerosis on different aspects of their lives and how they cope with this disease. Participants will be selected on following criteria.

•Only females would be included.

•All participants aged between 30 to 70 years would be included in the study.

•Professional medical doctors should have given the diagnosis.

•The target population would be either married individuals or those in a stable relationship.

The selected participants will have to be engaged in face to face interviews at Scleroderma Society Building, London. Procedures will include a 60-90 minutes audio-recorded semi-structured interview followed by a non-taped debriefing session. All research ethics have been approved by NSPC and Middlesex University and will be strictly followed. To accomplish my doctorate degree, I have to recruit 6-8 research participants for conducting interview who are suffering from Systemic Sclerosis. Interested Participants can contact to me.

Note: Your participation would be entirely voluntary.

Thank you for supporting me!

  • What a pity I live in the North West of England and cannot get to you as I cover all your criteria.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

I wonder do you come London for attending consultant appointment? or You are under treatment of consultants in North west of England.

I am wondering if you came to London to attend appointments with Consultant, then there is chances to meet you regarding my research if you agree.

  • Hello,

As you said that you meet with all criteria but cannot come here. I wonder if I can give you travel expense upto £30. Then would you able to come? I am not working due to nature of disease. But I can offer travel expenses upto £30.

    I look forward to you

  • Hello

As you said to me that you are fit for my study but could not travel.

I wonder how it is if I offer you £60 or more travel expenses? Where do you live? We can talk over phone and can discuss about negotiation in travel expenses if you need more or other things?

    I look forward to you.

  • I meet all your requirements and would be happy to help but since I live in Norfolk and am a pensioner I would need to claim travel expenses.

  • Hi

Thank you for contributing in my research.

I am afraid I could not reimburse travel expenses as I am not working due to Systemic Sclerosis.

Are you recieving treatment from London, because mostly people with Scleroderma travel to Royal free hospital, London to attend their appointment or Illoprost.

If you are intend to come for this, then I can meet you regarding interview.

  • I would be happy to help now you have extended the age criteria but I live in Yorkshire. Have you considered conducting the interviews via Skype or a similar internet application? I am sure you would be able to arrange something to include those not living in London with all the technology available.

  • Hi

Thank you for accepting to be part of my research.

I understand that people with systemic sclerosis have difficulty to travel. I made a plan to conduct interview online through application but unfortunately Middlesex University did not approve ethics to conduct interview online. Therefore, I have to conduct interview face to face in London at Scleroderma Society Building.

I understand it's frustrating as It would be tricky to travel for me as well.

I am pondering if you came to London to attend appointment? I am wondering Are you recieving treatment from Royal free Hospital, London?

    I look forward to you.

  • I too fit the criteria and would be happy to participate but do not live near London or see a specialist in London so won't be travelling up specially. A lot of us do not have the luxury of a scleroderma specialist at a national centre, we are under a general rheumy consultant at a regional hospital.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

Dr Chris Denton at Royal free hospital, London is a Specialist on Scleroderma. Certainly he is very competent doctor and has a variety of treatment plan for Scleroderma and Raynauds.

I am wondering why your general Rhemu or GP do not refer to Royal free hospital which is considered for main centre for Scleroderma.

I met many patients there lived outside London but travel there to attend appointments.

Hope, You find some help there!
