It sounds as of the med is Ropinerole (requip) that can make you feel very sick, when reading other peoples comments who also take it. How long have you been taking the med. ? If its not working or the dose is low then either you might need a higher dose, or you need a different med.

Hi Kazz1, you need to be aware that amytriptiline can make RLS worse for many people as it did for romany53, there are exceptions to the rule, but most anti-depressant pills can disagree with RLS. Sleeping pills do not usually help for RLS, it want stop the RLS, just make you sleepy, but the RLS will still keep you awake.

There are other RLS meds you can try, it sounds as if your doctor isnt very helpful. Can you see another doctor at your surgery, a different one might have a better understanding about RLS, and will listen to you better. Here is a website for you to look at, its a good website for info about meds for RLS, and what meds to avoid, including food and drink which can for some make RLS worse too. rlshelp.org

Good luck, i hope you get a medication which will help you sleep soon.

Hi Elisse

Where exactly on rls.org is the reference to food and drink to be avoided? The database on there is vast!

I've taken sleeping pills on occasion when things get too tough and found I just go to sleep ....and rls stops dead!!!! Awesome ....I just wish I could take them every night but I can't!

i was like that with Ropinerole and then set my RLS off after a few weeks so stopped taking them some folk lucky to be able to take them we're all different and as for the Amitriptyline they didn't help at all ....think it's all trial and error with the meds finding the right combo ..good luck hope you find the right one for you :)

Have you tried Neurontin [Gabapentin]? No side effects [for me] and it's sorted out my RLS.

Good luck with finding something.

hi Kazz1, so sorry to hear how miserable you're feeling and hope you find a med to help you very soon. I've just started with Magnesium Phosphate (from health food shop) and it's worked amazingly - my third night now with good sleep. You may like you read my posts since Monday. You can take mag phos with others meds I'm told but just check with doc to make sure. My RLS has subsided almost instantly. I have taken the nightime dose with a couple of cocodamol which may or may not be necessary so have to stop those and find out. best wishes and good luck.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Yes pramipexle and ropinerole can make you feel very sick and then there is a problem taking anti sickness medication which makes it worse. There is one, domperidon or motilum but don't quote me but I read a study which said to avoid that drug. There are other medications as you can see from the site. Today I was kind of being forced to take amityptyline and from what I have been told by many that does give sleep but makes RLS worse and when in the chemist a few weeks ago a customer told me not to touch it as they got RLS. I refused it. I've had oxycontin increased but tramadol reduced so I am in no better position and I too have lots of trouble trying to get my doctor to understand what we go through with RLS. It is a question of finding the right combination but also a doctor who will prescribe it. They won't give me sleeping meds even for a short time like you so they must have a reason. Perhaps something like gabapentin might help you. It's miserable so I hope that you find the right med that works for you. It's easier for some than others.

Besides Paekinson drugs you could try gabapentin, it helps some people and you can take large doses without much dide affects. I was on Fentanyl patch and it really helped. Good luck to you in your search. As far as Parkinson drugs mirapex worked wonders for me.
