Update on my 91yr old mum and RLS.

Here is an update on how my 91yr old mum has got on with her RLS. She was given Cabergoline back in end of August, and at first it made a difference, after her dose was increased, so much so that she felt settled enough to came and visit me in France for 2 weeks, of which she had very little problems with RLS, this was so good to have her here. When she returned home and after about a couple of weeks the treatment began to wear off, so armed with the information I have got from this forum, she badgered the Doctor to give her something better. She is now on Mirapex, and fingers crossed it seems to be working better than Cabergoline. The Doctor did agree that Neupro is not pushed as a treatment because of it high cost, but should she not have success with Mirapex, he is willing to try her on it. So that is a result, only made possible by her persistence, which really it not the way it should happen. It has made such a difference to her general well being, and made dealing with all the other things that old age brings on a little easier to deal with., lets hope the treatment continues to work.

Hi there, Good to hear an update from you on your mum. Yes, the patch is very expensive but when other RLS meds are failing its good to know that it can be used. I hope the Mirapex continues to be successful for your mum for a long time. But just to be aware that it can stop working for alot of people after a time. Lets hope that doesnt happen to soon and she is able to enjoy her life as she should do. :)

I am not sure about the Mirapexin, but I think its just the normal one, I will ask her what the dosage is.

I and my mum know that these medications can stop working, that's what happened with the Cabergoline, so just keeping fingers crossed that this keeps working.

That is soooo awesome, and persistence is what works. Took me ten yrs at least to get on the right meds.

Oh, just to state that the neupro patch is in the same family as the mIrapex and ropinerole, they are all dopamine agonist. They are also all used for Parkinsons Disease, but we use them at a much lower dose. Its this type of med that seems to stop working for RLS over time.
