That transition between taking medication and waiting for it to kick in.

Took my Mirapexin at 7pm tonight. We have a family member here for dinner and chat and I can't stay sat down in front of the telly cause my legs are jumping and stamping the floor like mad. Sooo frustrating when you have to walk away from people because of this illness. Does anybody else get a slightly nauseous feeling when the kick releases and the muscles relax down for a minute before they start to tense for the next bout. at the moment I am getting build up, tension then major kick down about once every 30 seconds or so. Is this common amongst others. Thats what I think is great with this forum, hopefully answers from people who actually know!!!!

Mirapexin it usually taken 2-3 hrs before bedtime so it has time to kick in. I am using the Neupro Patch highest dose and about an hour after putting it on my legs go nuts for about 3 hrs before calming down, i cant sit still either, drives me nuts..

I get nauseated so much but a cup of ginger tea helps me to get

over that..My legs get restless and ruin many good chances to

watch the rest of the movie, to sit through church service, to

sit and talk with people...

Here's some really weird ways to cope with the company...

Take them on a neighborhood walk.. =DD

Lie and say that you have a bad charlie horse...stomp it out!

Massage your legs as you sit and talk..be truthful then..say

that they are bothering you, hurt and are restless...

Put your foot up on their lap and ask them to start rubbing

it while handing them a bottle of lotion...(laughing out loud)

*joking, obviously...

Stand behind the couch and lean over to talk while standing

on your tiptoes.

Start munching on those special brownies...(jk..) but someone

did tell me that marijuana will settle them down instantly...

(I never tried it, seriously)

Sorry to hear that your fun evening was ruined by your intrusive

legs...I do know Exactly what you mean, truly..and it is upsetting,

not fair and makes you sad to have to excuse yourself..

Its well known that weed can help with RLS for some...i have tried it, but it didnt help and after 4 nights of scarely puffing, i felt weird in the morning....so that was that. Get side effects from the legal and illegal drug.... :)

We have 18 states that have medical MJ laws. Mine is one. I did not have the problem Elisse had. It also stops that nauseated feeling, along with ginger tea, also I buy crystallized ginger in a health food store over here. It helped me sleep. :) But, I had to have my legs quiet first. Steve, if you legs are "squirrely" at the sme time each night, better to take the med before you get to that state, and get that build up in your legs. Once it starts, it is harder to stop it. How did you make out?

I get the distinct feeling that I'm lucky compared to others on here. I have minor symptoms from early afternoon onwards and as long as I stay active they are bearable. I try to hold off medication till about 6.30pm the it's 2mg of Ropinerole and dog walking time. By 7.30 pm, I'm very dozey but with any luck the twitching feelings have gone and most nights I get a decent nights sleep. Essentially though,I'm on a twelve hour day with RLS; my good wife is left sitting on her own in the evenings and definitely no socialising/cinema etc.

I would say you are lucky. :) That is a good thing. Nice to hear a success story now and then.

a tip with Neupro patches - I leave my old ones on till they fall off (usually after 2 days )plus putting on 2 new ones early evenings ( 2 mg each one ) - I am always covered 24/7 and it hasn't done me any harm - if I need it I take a 1mg Ripinorole at night.

Steve, I know exactly what you are talking about and sympathise with you and the horrible feeling of having to leave company because the legs go crazy! I have done some of the things Karen is talking about, including marijuani ( someone told me it would help!--well it doesn't!!). I got so scared after a strong, very unpleasant reaction after trying it twice, that I'll never ever go that route again! ----I now take mirapexin twice a day, once in early afternoon and then an hour before I go to bed. This keeps the kicking under control. So far so good. I was on ropinirole before until augmentation set in. I am just grateful to have this forum to go to everyday. It sure helps to know that there are others out there who can sympathise and give help!

Thanks to all who commented. I am going to try splitting my dose of 3 tablets into 1 at about 5 ish and then the other 2 at 7pm. I have been on them now for about 6 years and gone from half a tablet which was a miracle cure at the time to now having 3! I believe, according to my GP that 4 is the absolute limit without liver damage.

What dose are you exactly? Liver damage is not what you have to worry about. augmentation and rebound symptoms when the Mirapexin stops working. You don't want to go too high with the dose, because it may turn on you. Just wondering how many mgs your tabs are.

Sorry been out of touch for a while. In answer to your query I am on 0.18mg tablets. No idea how that compares to other doses, just what the doctor prescribed!

It was interesting to hear that your legs jump. This happens to me and it's horrible. They jump so much sometimes (every seven seconds) that if I am in bed my whole body is affected right to my head which actually leaves the pillow, such is the impact of these jumps.

after trying Ropinerole and another one (can't remember the name) which just made me ill my GP put me on Clonazipam. They are fantastic BUT every six months or so you need to up the dose.I am on 6mgs now and praying that some cure will be found before I cant take them any more. I take my meds before I go to sleep and have a good night but the evenings are indeed very, very difficult.

So sorry for you
