Maxitrol

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a few years I think since I posted. I’ve muddled through for a long time riding the roller coaster that is RLS but I now need some advice please.

I’ve recently had a cataract operation two weeks ago and am having to take Maxitrol eye drops 4 x a day for four weeks. My restless leg and sleeping is in a really bad way now. I notice it contains a type of steroid which in tablet form would normally be evil for sleep but I can’t believe eye drops could cause this too. Has anyone had any experience of this ?

Huge thanks

Ask your doctor if there is a substitute that does not contain a corticosteroid.

Inflammation from the operation makes your RLS worse along with the Maxitrol so taking a NSAID , tumeric or Voltarol capsules might help.

However the inflammation should disappear shortly. Usually it doesn't last more than a couple of weeks which you have already passed.

Hi Sue,

Many thanks for your answers.

It’s been prescribed my the eye clinic which has two antibiotics and a steroid in it. I use it four times a day. I’m going to speak to them tomorrow to see if I can stop them or get an alternative. Could be the inflammation too plus I’ve also had back surgery in June so it’s been upset for a while now.

Huge thanks, Hamish58
