Quick question….

I’ve been told PPI drugs make RLS worse, does anyone know if it’s because these drugs can lower the iron? Is that the only reason because my iron low or high makes no difference on my RLS. For example, Benadryl effects RLS but it has nothing to do with our iron so do PPI only effect RLS when your iron goes down but if the iron stays the same anyone should be fine ?

I hope my question didn’t sound too confusing

Thanks !

PPIs can interfere with the absorption of iron but in researching it I haven't found anything on whether or not it otherwise makes RLS worse.

Same here I cannot find definitive evidence from any articles

From what I can determine iron levels have little or nothing to do with rls.

Say what? It is the leading cause of RLS - brain iron deficiency. hopkinsmedicine.org/neurolo...

How do you account for the fact that some people with high iron levels suffer from RLS and that many people have iron infusions which do not eliminate their RLS?

For whatever reason - that iron is not making it into the brain. It was a clear deficiency for me and iron supplements eliminated my severe RLS. There are many people that are suffering with DAs when a simple iron supplement would have helped. The pregnancy RLS has a clear iron connection with growth demands of the fetus robbing iron from the mother. RLS usually goes away soon after birth.

I second DicCarlson. Everyone is entitled to their views, but it has been shown through various routes that low brain iron is associated with RLS. One association doesn't mean it is the cause, but different ones from different angles do make it very more likely. Anyway, science always works with hypotheses that cannot be proved but need to he falsified. If not (yet) falsified then the hypothesis stands for the time being, until new evidence comes up.

Exactly, just because you see a fire engine at the scene of most fires doesn't mean that fire engines are the cause of fires.

Yes I think it's because PPI'S inhibit mineral adsorption .

This seems like a logical theory- hadn’t thought of that. When my minerals are good my RLS feels better.

PPIs are the biggest disconnect between regular doctors and alternative medicine practitioners. There are plenty of natural remedies without using PPIs. Here's a discussion...

Yes, the theory is that PPIs can affect iron levels, but it's not a proven link. It sounds like nothing to worry about in your case, especially since iron levels haven't helped or hurt.
