Is hydrolyzed Chicken Bone Broth Protein Concentrate bad for RLS

I read that bone broth is bad for RLS. I recently started taking collagen powder which contains hydrolyzed Chicken Bone Broth Protein Concentrate. Is this bad for RLS? Interestingly, I have had 2 nights recently where I had restless legs after 23 nights of no restless legs after I increased my gabapentin above 900 mg. Actually my restless legs are more like an increasing and then decreasing feeling in my legs. I sure hope the powder is not a problem because I want to take it.

It's quite possible that it contains msg. Check the ingredients. Double check the ingredients.

If it says " no added msg" then it contains msg! Go figure!😏

Any ingredient you are not sure about- Google it.

Good luck.

Are you saying it is the msg in bone broth which is the problem, not the bone broth itself, in which case my hydrolyzed Chicken Bone Broth Protein Concentrate is OK, because it doesn't list msg?

Not listing msg ,as such, is no help. Manufacturers disguise msg in any of about 200 ways.I'm not sure about the the broth itself.

RCHD has given one possible answer.

Thank you.

Yes it can aggravating because it’s a source of glutamate, which even if a natural source can make Rls worse.

Hydrolised protein is another name for MSG (google 'other names for msg'). Could there also be artificial preservative in there in the form of E202 (potassium sorbate) which has a reputation for causing nerve problems? If you avoid processed food (which includes bread cakes and biscuits) you will not encounter these problems and reduce your rls.

Thank you! Unfortunately that is not the answer I was hoping for, because I really need the collagen to help with my osteoarthritis and bone density. But I will stop taking it. I was lucky to have stumbled on the bone broth post or I would still be wondering why I was suddenly having restless legs and would never have suspected the collagen supplement.

You can of course make your own bone broth, but to help with the oseo arthritis try an anti inflammatory diet and to help with the bone density try vitamin K2 supplements it helps to keep the calcium out of the cardiovascular system and in the bones where it belongs. There is an excellent video on youtube called "everything you need to know about vitamin k1".

Hi SueJohnson. My mum has recently started taking a particular collagen tablet and swears by them for her osteoarthritis ....she also has restless legs so let me check with her to see if it's had any adverse effects

I stopped taking the collagen and my restless legs went away. They had previously gone away after taking 900 gabapentin but came back with the collagen.

I have tried regular type I and type III Collagen and even taking a small amount in the morning ended up being excitable and enhancing wakefulness at night. I have started on a supplement of BioCell Collagen (type II - Chicken Cartilage) and other ingredients. I'm not sleeping that well - and it may be the problem. It's also not really helping my arthritis that much either.

I am going to try plant based collagen which really isn't collagen at all but helps boost your body to produce more collagen. I will have to make sure it doesn't contain MSG either.
