So, not an ulcer, but I have gallstones. The gagging/throwing up is more frequent. I might have to drink some vitamin water to get some nutrients since I haven’t had anything to eat in 2 weeks. The problem is, the diet vitamin water has artificial sweeteners in it. I’m scared to drink it and make the RLS worse, but I don’t know what else to do.
And I probably should’ve been admitted so they could either take the stones or the gallbladder out, but they couldn’t admit me since it’s not life threatening. Funny, because I’ve lost 20 lbs in a month and I can barely drink water, let alone eat.
Any suggestions to get some nutrients in me? The hospital didn’t really tell me what to do.

That's a bit of a shock!
Terrible not to give you any advice!!!!
If you've not eaten properly for some time plus been nauseus you may be dehydrated as well as undernourished.
As regards vitamins, I don't really see what advantage vitamin "water" has over tablets. Taking multi-vitamin tablets may avoid the sugar.
But you do need water and sodium. Put one teaspoon of salt in 1 liter of water and drink that. NO MORE salt too much will make you sick. It's usual to put sugar in too, for energy. Usually 8 teaspoons, but you could try less.
If you're suffering cholecystitis, inflammation of the gall bladder due to gall stones, then it's not usual to carry out surgery immediately anyway.
To avoid pain and sickness, they should have advised you to cut out fat from your diet. You may need extra protein and extra carbohydrate at first to get some nutrition, but fat is a definite NO.
Get fat free or very low fat foods, skimmed milk etc.
If the whites of your eyes turn yellow or your urine very dark, see your doctor.
Well the idea behind the Vitamin Water is I can sip it in increments throughout the day since I can literally keep nothing down. It’s not actual vitamin packed water, it has small amounts of potassium, vitamin C and A, and some B vitamins. It’s a brand of flavored drink in the US. Just because I’ll probably throw up the multivitamin before it absorbs. I can barely take my gabapentin, but since it dissolves pretty quickly, I should be fine by the time I start throwing up.
I actually was yellow for a few days! I’m not sure what my eyes looked like, but my urine is very dark. I’ve also been running a low-grade fever of 99.0 F (my bad for the stupid American temperature measurement). They gave me IV fluids in the ER and sent me home. I’m still not eating at all because I can’t keep anything down. If you could see me, you’d think I was dying. I’m literally the color of a sheet of paper, I have gigantic dark circles under my eyes, I’m disgusting and greasy because I can’t stand long enough to shower, etc. My grandfather is a physician in a different hospital and is not happy that I couldn’t be admitted. We have to save beds for people with covid.
Thank you. I know it isn’t completely related to RLS, but I’m at my wits end with all of this happening back to back. I sat in the waiting room for maybe 5-6 hours just hoping that they could help me somehow, and all they did was give me IV zofran and fluids. I’m completely malnourished and dehydrated. I’m fed up.
I am sorry, that sounds a lot more serious than I imagined.
It still sounds like you have some cholecystitis, but your temp is only slightly raised at 37.2 Celsius.
The dark urine indicates you have some degree of obstructive jaundice. The whites of your eyes looking yellow would also indicate that. This may explain why your're so ill.
Perhaps your grandfather can suggest an antiemetic to help with the sickness. Swallowing anything with fat in it will still make things worse.
Things are getting quite dire with this pandemic. Health services here in the UK are getting swamped. Routine surgery and even some cancer surgery is being cancelled.
Oh, for sure it is. I had an ultrasound done. The physician I saw in the hospital confirmed that’s what it is, he just said he couldn’t admit me. He also said the temperature was nothing to worry about, but then he said if it raises to 102-103 F that I should come back. He said I’m unable to keep anything down and I keep gagging/throwing up bile because of the gallbladder, but again, not exactly as life threatening as it needs to be before I can be admitted. So I guess I’m SOL.
Also, wouldn’t the antiemetic make RLS worse?
My friend in the UK actually was posting about how bad it was getting for you guys too. The same thing is happening here. People in other states are being turned away because there are no beds open. It’s ridiculous and sad.
Is there a primary care physician you can see who would assess you and advise & refer you on to a different hospital dept if need be/check your blood & temp. If you have cholecystitis you need urgent treatment. I was a GP. Simple gall stones do not cause the degree of illness you are describing.
On Monday I’ll be seeing my primary. He hopefully will do something. I can’t live like this along with the RLS. All I have is gabapentin. I don’t know what the hospital is thinking sending me home like this. I threw up 2 times yesterday and I couldn’t stay asleep because of the combination of stomach pain and RLS.
Sounds awful. There are so many options as to the cause which need to be sorted. Re various ideas for rehydration, I would advise using only a ready prepared preparation advised for this, not one of the DIY ones. If you are taking Gabapentin and are now dehydrated it might be that your kidney function now can't handle your usual dose so you get more side effects eg vomiting. I am not advising changing anything without knowing the facts, just saying you should see a dr again asap and if you are deteriorating I think you should return to the hospital. This Covid is truly awful but at least in the UK other urgent matters are supposed to be dealt with properly though manpower problems and bed state are dictating other outcomes. I do feel for you. Please let us know how you are in due course
It really is. I’ll be having my mom get me some of that Vitamin Water to help replenish a bit, maybe also sip on some Pedialyte. I’m not sure about my kidney function, but they did some labs and I think they came back okay. Hopefully that’s not an issue. I just got over kidney stones 2 weeks ago. I’ll let you guys know when I figure some of this out with my doctor. Thank you for responding
Have you tried drinking Pediolyte, given to children to replenish their liquids when they are dehydrated? It is in the baby supply section of stores. I do not know if it has artificial sweetener or not.
I think I would either go back to the ER and firmly tell them what you've told us or perhaps go to another ER. I am a nurse and you really need to be seen
Not great. RLS woke me up a bunch of times last night. One of those times I ended up dry heaving. I threw up 10+ times yesterday. I’ll be seeing my doctor today in a few hours. I’m going to ask him for Lyrica and my mom wants me to be admitted for the gastro problems. I feel awful and my stomach hurts. They need to do something for me.
