SWITCHING FROM REQUIP TO MARIPEX

I am having numerous side effects, again, with requip. Am thinking of going back to Maripex which I did take for a very long time years ago. Any one gone successfully or unsuccessfully with that switch?

What side effects are you having? I see from previous posts that you were trying the drug free route ( diet/supplements) & that Methadone stopped your RLS but caused hyperarousal & lack of sleep.

If you were on Mirapex many years ago- did you have side effects on that?

I would be very wary of switching to another DA if you’re augmenting as the problem happens again very quickly.

Just to second what Jools says.

I'm also not sure what "side effects" you refer to., but simply if one dopamine agonist (DA) isn't working for you, then based on more recent information, it's possibly not a good idea to switch to another.

One of the main risks of taking a dopamine agonist long term.is augmentation. The risk of this with ropinirole (requip) especially extended release ropinirole is lower than the risk with pramipexole (mirapex).

As regards augmentation a switch from pramipexole to ropinirole might be worth a try, but not the other way round. A better switch might be to rotigotine (neupro patches).

Similarly, depending on what side effects you're referring to, you're possibly just as likely to get the same with any DA i.e. pramipexole (mirapex), ropinirole (requip) or rotigotine (neupro).

It might be better to consider non pharmacological remedies and/or non-DA medications.

I also took pramipexol (Maripex) for appr. 7 years and stopped due to augmentation.

I then tried Neupro (heavy dizziness), after this Pregabalin alone (sight and stomach problems).

My neurologist said I could try pramipexol again, after having it out of my system, together with Gabapentin (instead of Pregablin). He said, perhaps Gabapentin would suit me better than Pregabalin.

I am now at 0,044 pramipexol (Maripex) afternoon, 100 mg Gabapentin at 7 pm and 0,088 pramipexol at 8.30 pm. Effect is that I am very tired from about 9 pm onwards, therefore falling asleep around 11 pm almost immediately. Sleeping 5-6 hours (even 7 sometimes) on most days - though not all.

This I find very good, but I am aware that it may not last and augmentation will come again due to the pramipexol. It has lasted for 2 months now . In no case I will take higher doses. I try to enjoy the present and if it does not last, I shall have to change to whatever.

The side effects with stomach problems are from Gabapentin, since I am very sensitive with medication on the whole.

I would like to know what side effects ropinole gave you too...although at .25 (one pill, smallest dose) mine is compulsive eating I haven't experienced since gymnastics days...I went from intermittent fasting, no sugar or breads and pasta, organic foods only as a lifestyle to attacks of binge eating. Surprised the heck out of me. Like getting drunk without drinking :(
