Has anyone had a sleep study test because of not sleeping with RLS? If so, any positive results? I have had RLS since 2001

If you are given the opportunity to have a sleep study, take it.. It may show you have PLMD and/or sleep apnoea and sleep apnoea can affect RLS.

Thank you, I am scheduled for a sleep study this Friday; your answer made me feel more hopeful.

I had one. I slept well (because of the ropinirole I was taking), but the test showed that I wasn't also suffering from any other sleep disorders, so I suppose, even though it was negative (or positive depending on how you want to interpret it) I still think it was worthwhile as it narrowed my symptoms down to just RLS.

Yes. I have had two sleep studies and they both showed severe RLS and mild sleep apnea. I recommend having the study.

Thank You

As Manerva says, a sleep study can identify additional issues but it is not a necessary diagnostic tool for rls. If you have rls it will likely be recorded during your sleep study (unless you are taking effective medication) but your medical advisors should be able to diagnose rls by your description alone. Conversely the sleep study cannot rule out rls as not every sufferer experiences symptoms every night (except if experiencing dopamine agonists induces augmentation).

A sleep study can identify such issues as central sleep apnea if you are treating your rls with opioids and will generally improve your understanding of your sleep but it is expensive (if paid for privately) and not essential in identifying and treating rls.

Thank you, I appreciate all of the information; I am learning so much from other people with RLS

Yes I was diagnosed with moderate central sleep apnea and severe obstructive sleep apnea so was worth doing. I now use a Bipap machine
