Antidepressants and rls

I've suffered with rls for years, the doctor put me on iron as mine is always low, magnesium and rotigotine patches 1mg. The patches worked for a while but after about 6 months the rls returned much worse. I take 20 to 40mg of citolapram also which have been taking for about 10 years. I didn't realise until reading on here that it can make rls much worse. Over the past 2 months I've been very slowly reducing my dosage of citolapram. It turns out I can cope fine without it and the rls is 1000 times better, just the odd night mainly related to ovulation and period time it plays up. I haven't as yet reduced the rotigotine patches. Anyone else experienced this?

Antidepressants, in general,are regarded as anti rls.

It's great that you can cope without them.

You may be experiencing augmentation with the patch. You are correct to consider reducing it, but wait to see if being off the citolopram is sufficient to relieve symptoms.

As a fellow RLS sufferer and also a Nurse Practitioner, I know that Citalopram (brand name Celexa) can DEFINITELY make RLS worse.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) , also an antidepressant but in a different drug class, does NOT seem to aggravate it.

I use a combination of Mirapex 0.375 mg and Oxycodone 5 mg every night. I have been on the same dose for six years now but I am starting to have problems waking up too early and having RLS symptoms. I would love to use the patches but I am on Medicare and the co-pay is astronomical.
