Hi everyone..

I'd like to share my findings..it might help.

Having suffered with restless legs for a few years...I'm forever looking for advice..cure..help etc.

I've been doctors few times who concluded it was low ferritin levels..

I presume this is low brain iron.?

Then while reading about dopamine..I came across..

Vitamins and minerals to create dopamine:

IIron..niacin..folate..bit B6.. magnesium bit Different..curcumin oregano and green tea..

I've been taking all these as much as possible and all I can say it helps.. restless legs not every day...and not quite so severe.

On healthiness it states

Inositol may help balance important chemicals in your brain... including those which affect mood . serotonin and dopamine.

Few more facts I read.

To increase dopamine..eat lots of protein.

Lack of phenylalanine and tyrosine causes dopamine depletion.

Saturated fat disrupts dopamine and causes inflammation.

Dopamine production plays a role in how probiotics improve mood.

Gut and brain are closely linked.

Some bacteria that live in gut can produce dopamine.

Body initiates twitches to increase dopamine..this is when dopamine needs to be increased.

Recently I ran out of my iron tablets..iron bysglycinate which I buy privately as the doctors iron gives me stomach troubles.. whereas iron bisglycinate doesn't but it's costly for me.

Here's a list of things that naturally release dopamine and boost mood.

Eating favourite foods

Exercises

Meditation

Listening to music

Pleasurable touch.

Getting enough sleep.

Keeping good weight.

So the other night..rls started in earnest again..not having any iron tablets..I thought I'd try a lindt bar of dark chocolate...

So ate half the bar... within 5_10 minutes.. restless legs had stopped..!!

Hopefully some people will benefit.

Best wishes

Jan

Thank you Janland - I too like to control my RLS naturally and use natural supplements. You provide a good list through I find chocolate will aggravate my RLS if taken too late in the day as will Green tea. I also like to take Taurine as it increases Gaba and helps with sleep. Another good list of natural things to take is the following

Thank you Sooo much for information.. very kind of you..

I'll study it all this evening..

I had one of the worst nights last night..ended up with my feet pressing against the headboard.

Eating chocolate might have helped but I've run out of iron bisglycinate tablets which I have to buy myself.

I've written quite a few letters on this site as I'm trying to research all the time.

Mabe you'd like to have a look..

I know the subject is complicated..but there is something causing the restless legs.. maybe you might get a clue from my research.. but dopamine and iron and b.vits play a big part especially as one gets older.

Many thanks

Jan..

Hmmm Ferrous Bisglycinate is really inexpensive in US, $5 for a bottle of 18mg, 120 count. All good advice - my theory, for myself, is that I am PRONE to RLS having had growing pains as a child <10 years and remember being treated for iron deficient anemia. Something (in my case a head injury), depletes the brain iron and electrolytes, increases Glutamate over GABA, and depletes dopamine = RLS.
