Which drugs make RLS worse?

I am seeing a consultant at a sleep clinic on Wednesday 30th January. Last time she wanted to prescribe me Amitriptyline. I knew that I had seen that this drug made RLS worse and told her so. She actually researched it herself & rang me at home to tell me not to take it.

So that I can prepare for my visit does anyone know if there is a list of drugs that make RLS worse

May I suggest you also take with you information about what does work for RLS as your consultant clearly knows very little if she prescribed amitripyline!

I just wanted to add that I have been on Amitriptyline 50mg for around 12 months and I have not had a problem with it.

Long term no-nos mirapex, requip, generics are pramipexole and ropinerole. They are guaranteed to set up augmentation. Good luck.

Thanks craigm1114. I augmented 18 months ago having been on Mirapex for 12 years. After being given a variety of other drugs all of which gave me horrible hives I am now using a 1mg Neupro patch. I usually sleep for 2hours from 5am to 7am. If I’m lucky a good night will mean an hour or so - get up for an hour - then maybe an hour back in bed and so on..... I really don’t know what to do next as I don’t want to increase the patch only to have to face augmentation again. Tweeked my diet and eat my main meal at lunchtime. This seems to help a little

Not a wink of sleep last night and still trying to get some help. Between my hair looking like a lions mane 🦁and my droopy eyes through lack of sleep 💤 it’s just as well we are locked down. Thank you for asking - it is really appreciated x

I have to avoid anything with sugar 6 hours before going to bed. I take Requip and hate that stuff. It takes 2-3 hours to kick in and doesn't do me any favors the next day.
