Hi there, Sorry to hear of your trouble. I suffer severe RLS and also migraine with aura.

Over the years I have found I am sensitive to many medicines - some of which have caused onset of bad migraine after just one dose. I could not take omeprazole at all because of side effects. My husband was on omeprazole as he had to take steroids and the omeprazole caused constant coughing. He asked the doctor about this but was told it was not the tablet but we investigated on line and see that many suffered this side effect. When he stopped tablets so did the very annoying cough. If you google these drugs you will find they affect RLS and can indeed interrupt the absorption of iron. If you try on this site I found posts about two years ago on this subject. Hope this helps

Thanks. Sorry to hear you have both too i actually think they may all be part of the same thing. Any experience of ranitidine? I may have to persevere with the omeprazole for a little while at least to help heal my stomach. Thanks

Hi again

Ranitidine or Zantac causes problems with RLS as well as I think it is in the same class of drug as omeprazole. I see that Chia seeds can help with gastritis and you might look into this or cutting out certain foods.

All the best

Having worked with clinical trials, I can say that there are many side effects that are not disclosed to the public once the medication reaches the final stages. In trials, you weed out certain populations that has side effects that are aggravated by the medication; as an example, a history of glaucoma would rule you out of certain asthma studies due to medications increasing eye pressure, so that would interfere with a proper result. It does not surprise me at all that your husband looked on line and found that his symptom was similar to others. These are not shared with the doctors either. Medication is serious business and the game is rigged against us.

Hi. I have both conditions. I have taken Zantac omeprazole lansaprazole and currently osemaprazole. All make RSL much much worse. I’m ok taking it for about 5 days then wham off go my rsl. I tried every other night with the ppi’s but they then didn’t do their job so now I’m in a quandry as I have a rolling hiatal hernia and nothings helping. By the way I started taking magnesium Malate capsules about 5 years ago for regular migraines and it worked almost instantly. I’ve only had one short lived migraine and one aura since.
