Confused

I've been suffering with restless leg syndrome for years. Last summer I couldn't take it anymore. I hadn't slept in months so I finally went to my doctor and was prescribed requip. I take 1 mg at night. I recently had surgery on my foot in April and discovered I have nerve damage in my foot. I'm not sure what's more painful the nerve damage or the Restless Leg Syndrome! My foot doctor prescribed Gabapentin, after reading all the posts about gabapentin and requip I'm not sure what to do. I'm doing very well with the requip and am afraid to add anything else. Any suggestions??

I think you should at least try gabapentin for the neuropathy. A DA will not help.

So, piggy-back just to see what happens. As small a dose as possible.

It may be that the gabapentin will do so much good that you can slowly reduce your DA, which has great dangers of its own.

But nerves do slowly regenerate, they grow at a rate of 1mm per year, so there may be an end to that pain eventually.

I second Parminter's comments. The gabapentin is well worth trying. It may very well help both your foot pain and RLS. It is commonly prescribed for both conditions. Many of us take multiple drugs for RLS. As you probably know, taking dopamine agonists (requip, pramipexole, even rotigotine patch) can lead to augmentation (the paradoxical worsening of RLS symptoms over time). So anything you can do to keep your requip dose as low as possible will deuce your chances of encountering augmentation. Adding gabapentin to your regimen is one common way of doing this. I use it myself, to allow me to minimize my rotigotine patch dosage. Good luck!

For me requip side effects were horrific... Gabapentin shuts off rls ..only side effect .. sleepy 😴
