Hi beady3. I have been on 4mg of rotigotine for about four years now without any augmentation. I first had the 2mg patch which made a difference but I felt i needed more, so I "experimented" by putting two patches on at once and boy what a difference it made! I felt normal for the first time in years. I told my GP who checked with the neuro. who said 4mg would be fine. I forgot to put a patch on the other day and did I pay for it later with my legs doing a jig so I know it is still working 100%. The only down side is the patch causes inflamed skin which Sudacrem cream seems to combat.

If you stopped any meds taking for RLS, then you will know about it, so not just the patch would your legs go mad.

I only use the patch.

in reply to jefro

What i mean is, what ever med you are taking for your RLS and you stop it, you legs would go mad because you are not taking anything to stop the RLS. Whether that be just the patch or one of the other meds for RLS.

The post has turned mainly to augmentation and I am saying that I have not had augmentation with the Neupro patch even at 4mg.

I had restless body for years when even my face and jaw would not stay still and I had tried everything and all the recognised drugs which I either had to stop because of side effects or augmentation. After a new GP came to my surgery who actually new something about RLS and who had a neurosurgeon as a mate did he prescribe Neupro at 2mg. When I first applied it I felt different so the next day I cut one in half and applied it with a 2mg making 3mg and again I felt better but it didn't last all day so the next day I applied two and the rest is history. I am not suggesting anybody to do what I did as everybody are different and tolerate drugs differently. I answered your post because I was on a bigger dose than you and not to tell all sufferers that this is the answer. It works for me.

HI BEADY3 you just don't know what or whom to believe do you.One is saying you may augmentate & the next one is saying they are on 4mg patch. Go & see what your GP says before you decide to do anything. I do know the higher dose you take you are likely to agmentate,so please see what your GP says first.XXXSUE

We all know or should do, that keeping the dose of ANY dopamine med low is better than increasing it and risking augmentation.

Connie, as has been discussed for YEARS on here, no one dose is right everyone, some will augment on dopamine meds, some will not. As with any class of meds the dose is pretty individual, it is all trial and error. No ONE thing works for everyone, and every one has sensitivities to different classes of meds. And NO ONE thing works 100% of the time. This is all very common knowledge to people who have been discussing RLS for decades. The things I mention never change. You can see what others are doing, but it may not work for you. The person on the 4 mg patch is an exception to the dopamine "rules". 3 mgs is usually as high as you want to go with the patch and that is what is recommended. But, sometimes we have to experiment with meds, and are lucky to have a doctor that will allow it.

Some people can take dopamine agonists for many years, some get augmentation very quickly even on low doses. It is a risk you take but in general the higher the dose the greater the risk.

Beady you have already had augmentation from Ropinerole therefore you are at an even higher risk.

This is why for several years I have stuck to the 1mg patch preferring to take regular breaks rather than increase my dose x

Minds made up stay as I am and just keep walking thanks

in reply to beady3

beady, you do get some good nights i believe when i have seen some of your posts. Just now and then it all goes pear shaped and you end up awake and pacing. That can happen to all of us, and we all wonder why, was it something i ate or drank and usually we can never work it out.

The thing to remember here, Beady, is you have augmented before. Is the patch the only med you are using now, or are you taking a combination of things for the RLS?

Thanks nightdancer, I also take 100mg Tramodol and 150mg Pregablin

Beady3,

I have been on dopamine agonists for 7 years and NEUPRO for the last 5, starting at 2mg and progressing to 4mg and experienced serious augmentation starting late 2017. I have decreased gradually to currently 1 mg, scheduled to decrease to .5 mg in 5 days, then to 0mg 5 days after that all the while increasing GABAPENTIN with every decrease of NEUPRO.

The augmentation is so severe I will never take another dopamine agonists again!

Weaning off is pure HELL!

I wish you the best!
