SO MUCH BETTER!!

Hi everyone,

Over the last 2 months I have cut out all biscuits, cookies and crisps and the desired result is that I have lost 4 kgs or roughly 8 lbs of weight! I am also more careful about wine (I have the odd glass), caffeine and chocolate and the result is I am more tired in the evening and sleep so much better! Since going completely caffeine-free I have discovered Turmeric Active tea (by Pukka) which I think is also helping my RLS.

So here is my regime: I am on 3 mg Neupropatch (which I now change before going to bed so I can have a delicious hot bath) and 5 mg Clonazipam before bed. In the morning I take 250 mg of Magnesium Oxide, vitamin B12 and vitamin D and I try to eat unprocessed food as much as possible, so simple food like fish and vegetables. It all sounds a bit boring but I lost the weight which is great, but also I have no more RLS at night!!! Oh boy have I suffered before and had to keep taking 2 co-codamol or co-dydramol to help me sleep, Now if I am slightly restless, I just take an extra magnesium with a bit of food. I know we are all different, but please take a look at what you eat and drink. At the moment it is helping me! Good luck.

Loosing weight is good for our over all health, so well done to you. What has happened probably is not eating foods that are loaded with sugar has helped your RLS, sugary foods can be a trigger for many people.

Turmeric is anti inflammatory so this might be the reason why it might help.

So glad you have got a handle on all the triggers. Massive job. Give yourself a high five!!

I know the biscuits ( raising agents) are a major trigger for me.

Thanks for letting us know.

Congratulations on your success. Now that you've felt the diference a change of diet can make, perhaps you'd like to take it further and maybe you could do without the meds. I wouldn't change the minerals and vitamins as I'd recommend those to anyone.

Faypreston, That is great! I've also changed my diet but no way near what you have accomplished. Congrats!

Diet and extra Magnesium (along with some meds) is definitely one solution for many people. Just removing sugar and chocolate while on 4mg Neupro patch a day has really helped me. I was also taking .5 of Clonazipam but for the last week I've cut down to .25 Clonazipam and sleeping.

Waiting to see my neologist and see about getting the patch down to 3mg.

Again congratulations!

Hi Fay - Sounds great that you are controlling your RLS naturally which is exactly what I am trying to do. That hot bath is my best defence. Just a point about the magnesium Oxide. That form of magnesium is the cheapest and least absorbed in the body. Other forms of magnesium are far better - check this out

Goldy, I see that you are trying to manage your symptoms naturally but that you have suffered a deterioration in recent years. Have you had your serum ferritin checked? A drop in iron levels can cause a deterioration and raising iron levels can help reduce symptoms in many sufferers. It is definitely worth checking if you haven't already. I wish you every success in your battle with rls using natural means. There are many, many suggestions on here. The most recent I noticed is balneum cream. I am wondering if it would help me. I hope you find something that works for you. All the best.

Faypreston - it is something I have to get onto. My Ferritin levels are under 50 and I have always been a bit scared to take too much iron because it can be toxic in high doses. However I am now taking an iron supplement and hope it will make some difference. I need to have my ferritin levels checked again as well.
