Raffs did that mean you didn’t stop your meds

in reply to beady3

I'm not sure what you are asking about, the heading is raffs and there is no mention of what I am on and how long I've been taking it. Take a quick reread of your first post and you'll see what I mean.

So sorry Krantom

in reply to beady3

Ah. No I don't take it too often now-a-days as I am getting reasonable relief from prescribed drugs, (apart from some augmentation that meant I stopped my Neupro patch but not because of the Kratom.

I had been treatment free for a couple of months and with the RLS going on 18+ hrs a day and in my arms and back it was an absolute nightmare of a time. I was so desperate that had someone handed me a syringe full of heroin I believe I'd have stuck it in me!!!

Thankfully a bit of research brought me to Kratom and it was a wonderful experience for me. Now I didn't get any high but my body was quiet and after the previous few months and all the years that had preceded that it was an amazing feeling - for the first time I could remember my body was at peace.

I initially went by the sites to see what a low dose was and I think it was about 2 -3 grams so I started at 1g. Nothing. next night was 3.5g and when I hit 7g peace. I only used once or twice a day to keep usage at a minimum

I took it for about 6 months and finally got sorted out with prescription drugs which are not as good but good enough, (and much more pleasant to take - easier to stick on a patch that swallow the 7g of loose powder or 12 capsules. I stoped the Kratom dead with no ill effects other than the RLS was ramped up until the prescribed ones had time to work.

It has low abuse potential and limited side-effects. I urge you to read the kratom vault at erowid.org as a good resource:

erowid.org/plants/kratom/kr...

plus I can answer any questions you have too.

Best of luck.

Thanks for being so helpful ,will be intouch x

in reply to beady3

My pleasure, I hope you get relief soon.

I forgot to mention:

Make sure to try a test dose first - a small amount to make sure you have no adverse reaction. It is highly unlikely but it is always best to err on the side of caution - always.

Take care and let me know how you get on.

Yes, I would second the suggestion of trying a small amount first. It might be an idea to only increase gradually also because it can induce some nausea (possibly just because it is so unpalatable). I suppose there is also a chance it could induce dizziness although it doesn't with me.

in reply to involuntarydancer

Never got the dizziness but did the nausea. I detest taking it, although to be fair its over quicker than the cannabis.

Hello Raffs,

I regard you as the Kratom expert, so....

I am starting to augment slightly on the Neupro patch. This has already happened with Ropinirole, so I know that the augmentation will probably get worse with the Neupro. When you stopped the Neupro, did you take the Kratom as you were reducing or wait until you were completely off the Neupro, and did you take anything else while you were coming off the Neupro and/or while you were taking the Kratom?

At the moment, I apply the patch and take one 50 g Tramadol at 6pm and another Tramadol during the night if the RLS breaks through.

Any advice welcome.

in reply to macewan13

Hi nacewan13.

I withdrew from the patch using cannabis, (I was also taking Targinact and Tramadol), as I had a chance to get some and therefore preserve my Kratom supply, (easier to get cannabis than Kratom for me).

I am prescribed the tramadol as 50mg twice a day but I take 100mg once a day and Targinact 40/20 once a day.

In the beginning I took cannabis every couple of hours and now am taking it 2 -3 times a day. I have held on to the Kratom because of a traumatic time with no drugs caused by Dr error and incompetence and am terrified of going back there so I keep the Kratom as a back up - only to be used if no other options are available.

As said to beady3 during that period I found Kratom and initially went by the sites to see what a low dose was and I think it was about 2 -3 grams so I started at 1g. Nothing. next night was 3.5g and when I hit 7g peace. I only used once or twice a day to keep usage at a minimum.

There are other guys on here that took 1 or 2 grams a couple of times a day but I felt no relief at those levels if you go down that route start small as you may be lucky enough to get relief.

Also, I know the kids are abusing this drug but for me the only effects I felt were the quieting of my body - no buzz, energy or sedation. I did one time take two dose close together, (have memory problems) and the only thing I experienced was nausea and ended up vomiting, (but felt grand after being sick - although going by the sites it was a heavy dose and I should have been experiencing euphoria and sedation - nothing euphoric throwing the contents of your stomach into the toilet though!).

If I were you I'd start the Kratom as you are reducing to prevent the whole thing getting worse. Make sure to try a test dose first - a small amount to make sure you have no adverse reaction. It is highly unlikely but it is always best to err on the side of caution - always.

Best of luck and hope you find relief soon.

Raffs, I'm sure you don't need me to say it but just in case .... be alert to sudden onset profound depression if you are taking cannabis daily. I read of someone on another forum who succumbed to desperate depression - came on almost overnight. He found it cleared up readily when he stopped the cannabis and now he takes a few days break from it every few weeks. I notice that sometimes I experience the same symptom and always know it is time to ease off the cannabis intake.

I wish it worked to still my legs - I use it as a sleep aid because of my ongoing battle with insomnia caused by some drug in my regime but sadly it doesn't make any difference to my rls.

in reply to involuntarydancer

I was the other way, well sort of. When I developed ME I was using cannabis regularly and although I didn't think the cannabis was making me ill I still had to rule it out.

Long story short the increase in symptoms along with the failing health and loss of job led to a depression I never had when using cannabis regularly, but as said the loss of job and getting ME are the likely culprits.

Have you tried swapping strains? I hate it when I get one that's not so good for the RLS although I reap other benefits like better appetite or better sleep.

involuntarydancer profile image
involuntarydancer in reply to

Yes, I've tried a few strains but haven't noticed an appreciable difference between them. Maybe it's because I make them into edibles (I find smoking makes my lungs sore - I bought a snazzy vaporiser but it was no better). I read one of your posts where you said strawberry cough was good. Haven't got hold of that.

Someone recommend critical mass for rls so I tried medical mass which is from the same 'gene-pool' but it was no better than the sensi-skunk I started with. Northern Lights was also ineffective. I do love all the names though! And the fact that the 50 year old me is becoming a cannabis expert. I actually bore my teenage children about it - the irony gives me so much pleasure.

in reply to involuntarydancer

Sensi Star worked well for me, just goes to show how hit and miss drugs can be.

Well Raffs I am 82 years young, I don’t want a new car a fantastic holiday or anything outrageous , just a night sleep and that’s what I am aiming for ,so with the help of all you good folks that help me get my wish thanks x

in reply to beady3

Well if you are really 82 you may take down your avatar of that young chick in the stripy top and glasses!

I know what you mean, it is not a big ask that we are asking - no riches or anything better than anyone else just something as simple as peace in our bodies. Maybe some day the powers that be will realise spending money on people who are suffering instead of weapons of war to cause more of it.

I tried Kratom for pain relief. I guess I didn’t take enough. I only felt a slight relief from pain. Not enough to down as many pills as I thought it would take. And too expensive.

But I did feel a “peacefulness” for a short period of time after taking them. I never thought about using it for the thrashing and pacing I did at night.

Right now I use a boatload of supplements and pain meds (for a chronic neck injury) to keep it at bay. Mine’s not as bad as your sounds- only my legs, and sometimes arms, at night.

I’m just not ready to start Rx meds. I hope I don’t have too.

in reply to Tmj1955

What dose of Kratom did you take? I had to go to around 7.5g roughly with little benefit from lover doses doing anything.

Definitely try it again in the evening before your RLS ramps up.

You could also look into Gentle Iron, many on here find it beneficial.

Tmj1955 profile image
Tmj1955 in reply to

I honestly don’t recall how much I took. It was Bali - supposedly good for pain and mood.

I’ve been thinking also about trying CBD. Have you experience with using that?

What exactly is gentle iron? I’ve not taken iron because I read that it was not very effective due to not penetrating the blood-brain barrier.

I cook almost wholly with cast iron and have for 20 years. I know that iron does get into the food cooked in it. And of course, my iron levels are “fine”.

in reply to Tmj1955

People with RLS have difficulty maintaining adequate levels of iron in our brains and we can have normal serum, (blood( levels while having poor brain levels. There are a number of people on here, myself included, that find it beneficial to take some early evening.

Run it through the search engine at the top right of the page and check it out - you'll come across a whole load of other info in the process too.

Tmj1955 profile image
Tmj1955 in reply to

Thanks for the info. I ordered some of the gentle iron to give it a try.

in reply to Tmj1955

Please be aware that excess iron can be harmful. I know from past prescribed iron in the past that when I have too much my stools get sticky, (sorry for the graphic detail) along with a bad taste in my mouth so I know to stop at that level and avoid any harm.

Would be worth talking to your Dr about it. Any thing that we use for RLS should be well researched by ourselves before we use it, (except for the soap you can trust it - a well researched and commonly prescribed remedy for neurological conditions like RLS including M.S., Migraines, Stokes and brain tumours)!!

Tmj1955 profile image
Tmj1955 in reply to

Too funny! No matter how well researched I only use the soap in my lingerie drawer. But then again, they don’t seem bothered with RLS! ??

As for the iron. I will be very cautious. I know from whence you speak regarding the iron output issue. I was going to just try once or twice a week to start with. I don’t imagine you really want to know how things come out!! But I will share if it makes any difference in my legs.

in reply to

I have been on ropinirole fir 5 years now. Dr perscribed no side affects. You can get it without a perscription from Mexico. I have severe RLS and if I take my ropinirole 3xa day I will have no trouble. I am sure it will work for you!

I've taken 2 different DA's and both ended up causing augmentation after a bit along with messing with my head. Not a fan of them.

Don't do it! More regrets , More side effects, Than I can count! Will ruin your brain. Your hair will fall out, your memory will go, insomnia, and getting off is a nightmare!!! Was on 1 year! 600-900mg a day! Lost who I was! Down to 300mg every other day... Monday twice a week for 2 weeks! Then done! Feeling myself slowly returning... Ty God!! Rather deal with chronic pain, and physically (yoga) and meditation to help... good luck!
