Has anybody out there swapped Praminexole for Ropinirole or visa versa to see if the side effects are any better?

I take 2.5mg Praminexole at night and although it solves the RLS problem, it leaves me wasted next morning and with a thick head and tired legs most of the day.

Pramipexole made me feel sick all the time and totally exhausted. Ropinirole caused vomiting, nausea and fainting. I am now on the Neupro patch (the same family as the other 2), which is working with very few side effects - slight nausea at the beginning, which required an anti nausea pill but that stopped after about a month.

Good luck.

Hi,

They are both dopamine agonist medication so I wouldn't think much difference between them.

They act similar to the brain chemical dopamine. You must taper off the Pramipexole over a weeks time before starting the Ropinirole because of the mode of action on the brain. Unfortunately, you have to cope with the leg sensations during this time. Your dose will gradually be adjusted as you take the Ropinirole.

Personally I wouldn't use any of them as I was so depressed and tired while taking pramipexole.

I hope you find what it works best for you.

Good luck.

I too took Ropinerole and suffered horrible side effects. But I was also taking too much ie. 4mgs..So when i later changed to Prmipexole after trying patches, i made sure I take a small dose : x2 .o88 and a small dose of oxycodone as well. So its the dosage as well as the drug.

Check my earlier post on pram dosage funnyfennel, I think your 0.088 is 1.25mg.

That seems an incredibly high dose of pramipexole. I think the new maximum recommended limit is 0.5mg. It is not surprising that you are experiencing such pronounced side effects at that level. You would need to watch out for compulsive behaviour - eg gambling or internet shopping - at that dose also. I'm not sure if changing to ropinerole would benefit you. I would think there is a good chance you will also need a high dose of ropinerole to replicate the effect of the pramipexole and consequenlty you are likely to experience side effects from the ropinerole also.

Depending on your history and in particular how long you have been on pramipexole, you might be augmenting - you should probably do some research on this.

Have you had your serum ferritin levels checked lately? Raising iron levels can greatly improve symptoms in many sufferers.

Hi

I was on mirapexin and then changed to Ropinirole (requip). I found it very easy to change over so give it a go.

I found that Pramipraxol made me have a shopping problem and made me want to overeat. It also made me feel very groggy in the morning and i often felt sick,

I have now been on Requip for a couple of years and found it much better , no sickness and no compulsive shopping or eating. Make sure the doctor doesn't give you the generic brands as these do not work as well or last as long.

As someone else has already mentioned Get your iron levels checked and if low ask for an iron infusion. Get referred to the hospital and you will find them very helpful. I had previously tried iron tablets for years but it hardly makes any difference.

I had the iron infusion 6 months ago and its the best thing i have done for my RLS.

My symptoms have improved dramatically and i now get good nights sleep.

I still get RLS if i sit for too long but can now live with it.

Good luck
