Strange - but effective...

Hi there. I am new here...but, I have found a way of getting relief from all over body RLS. Now, don't laugh, but for some reason - it works. When I apply sharp pressure (such a fork or hair brush) to my legs or affected body parts, I am able to move the object in such a way that it "moves" the pain to an "exit" point....like the tips of my fingers or toes. Yes, I know it sounds weird, but that pressure seems to release what I call "surface tension" of the skin. Once you start the motion, finish it to the end of the "exit point." Start at the top, let's say of your arm and slowly move the energy to the tips of your fingers. I apply enough pressure that I can see "tracks" from the stiff bristle brush or fork. I don't scratch myself or inflict any further pain, but enough to "remove stubborn pain..." I can almost visualize the pain moving away from me and out of my body. The increased circulation may be a reason it works? The visualization? The sensory overload for the nerves? Who knows - But, for me - this helps. For buzzing and vibration in my feet - I soak in strong Clorox water. If I am at work and desperate, I will use a Clorox wipe to soothe my feet. Again, not sure why this helps, but it gives me some temporary relief.

Sounds like it's working well for you. I particularly like the idea of moving pain to an exit point.

It sounds like a mixture of Acupoint pressure and Reiki and there is no reason why it shouldn't work for anyone who is openminded enough to try Eastern practises. I've used similar technique- especially in the middle of the night - with moderate success. I don't know if there is a placebo effect working here- but that is irrelevant if it works.

I also find a 'thumper' vibrator works well- doing exactly what you describe and following the ' sweet spots' in the muscle knots to ease out the'tingling'.

It certainly beats getting up and doing the hoovering at 3 in the morning 😅.

Thanks for sharing- and good luck with your continuing 'massage '.

Scratching is the cancelling of one pain, (itch) by another, (scratch), so maybe works the same way?

Regardless it is drug free and works for you, congratulations and long may it last.

Sillieecharle please see my post about augmentation as it sounds as though this could be the problem. It is currently 3rd post from the top entitled AUGMENTATION. The Ropinerole made me feel very sick too but it is not the only medication available for RLS, have you tried anything else? ...Pippins2 x

I read ur augmentation post earlier and it prompted me to chat to my sister about my concerns, iv tried quinine tablets then pramipexole before being moved onto these, iv tried every wives tale, epsom salt baths, lavender baths, magnesium oil spray, cool gels, sprays, bananas, gallons of water, I have really tried to help myself as I'd rather not use the tablets but I'm at my wits end, my bedroom used to be my place of sanctuary, just for me to chill and relax but I now associate my bedroom and bed with a place I feel anxious, unsettled, nervous all because iv suffered with my rls here so many nites, I'm becoming so resentful of this condition that its changing me as a person, anxious all day

Quinine wont help it treats cramp not RLS.I would advice you ask your doctor to prescribr you an opiate such as Tramadol to help you get iff the Ropinerole.Whatever you do dont up the Ropinerole dose it will make things worse.Which country are you in? Do you see a Neurologist ? X

I'm in Belfast, iv been on many opiates is tramadol and recently morphine as I had an operation on my spine last yr, tramadol I took before my op made my rls 100 times worse the morphine was fine but I'd no quality of life I was on so many tablets so with my doctors help I got weaned off all but 3 of my tablets, I want to wake in the morning and if I feel pain at least I know it's not because my body is craving the opiates, my doctor thinks I have rheumatoid arthritis so I'm awaiting an appointment to rheumatoid he has said that wen this course of tablets finish if my rls hasn't settled he's referring me to a neurologist

You might like to watch the YouTube video by Dr Paul Earley from John Hopkins Medical Centre in Baltimore USA . I have just spent five weeks withdrawing from dopamine drug Pramipexole.

Hi. so glad this works for you. As Madlegs says there are similarities with other practices. How long do you do this for and for how long do you get relief?

Also try MAGNESIUM OIL. Someone here recommended it and for me it's been like magic. A couple of nights ago I started, very little but enough for me to react, to get RLS in my arms and legs even though I had taken my meds. I rubbed the magnesium and went to bed happy as a baby. I'll try ANYTHING, 1. To keep away from drugs, 2. Because you just never know what will work. I was also thinking that maybe your mind helped ? The visualization like you said? Who knows, and we'll never know, just like this dreadful desease. The oil that was recommended comes from the UK, I'm in the USA, I purchase it through AMAZON. It's called MAGNESIUM OIL, Goodnight Pure mineral spray. Just remember, what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. Good luck and keep on brushing, LOL.

Sounds interesting, may give it a go, I have tried punching my legs but it then makes them spasm! Not recommended haha. Tried magnesium oil, but didn't change anything , do people use lots and massage for a long time?

Magnesium oil works for

some people- I make up my own mix - half by volume of Epsom salts and water.

Other times I massage the back of my calves and arch of foot- which also gives relief.

There's no doubt that there is a large psychlogical element to this condition. If I'm stressed it goes out of control completely.

You do what you can and try everything.

That's why I get mad/ annoyed when people take advantage of our suffering by promoting overpriced solutions for what is a very vulnerable section of society.

Anything is worth a try! I do find that if my legs are tingling (the sign that my RLS is kicking off) and I start to think about it, the symptoms actually get worse - almost like there is a psychological link too. I suffer from sleep problems too - classic of RLS. I have tried various methods of control - magnetic bands, leg massage, iron supplements, magnesium spray and others, but only walking around half asleep until my legs settle works. Hey ho! Could be worse I suppose - at least I have legs!
