RLS and Peripheral Neuropathy

I have been diagnosed with both RLS and Peripheral Neuropathy. My neurologist did a emg which came back normal. Wonderful news but I still have RLS and Peripheral Neuropathy. He now wants me to have "punch biopsies" of the small nerve bundles. Has anyone had this done? My legs are getting worse and worse. My ankles swell to the point that they look like if I put a needle in them they will pop. Very painful and pins and needles in the feet all the time. Asked for a mild pain pill and because of all of the heroin abuse here in the USA, he cannot give me anything!! My primary care doctor must do that. I have not contact him yet but will. Any input of the biopsy process will be very appreciated. Thank you.

I take Tramadol and Gabapentin for my Peripheral Neuropathy which greatly helps with the pain and discomfort. (these medications are also very good treatments for RLS - if you can get them prescribed by your GP it could be like "killing 2 birds with one stone" !! - I know many doctors are reluctant to prescribe Tramadol for RLS, however it is a recommended drug to treat the pain of PN)

I take Bumetanide for the leg swelling and also when sitting I always try to keep my legs elevated.

When the pain is really bad I have found that if I lie on my stomach with my legs bent and a pillow beneath them, I can get considerable relief. Lying on my back makes the PN much worse for me.

I would love to hear how you get on with the nerve biopsies. I live in Scotland and have peripheral neuropathy in my feet due to chemotherapy. I also have restless legs . I have tried various medications to no avail and was told once the nerves are damaged there is no way to repair them . I have bought a circulation booster which is like a big tens machine and I'm finding it's helping the RLS . It's called Revitive and here in the uk you can have it on a thirty day trial.

I also use "goodnight magnesium spray " just before getting into bed and that's a great help too. Amazon sells it if you wish to try it. Not too expensive.

I hope you get some more help and wait to see how the biopsy turns out. Do you , like me lose your balance ? I'm forever falling over .
