Hello Marjorie sorry to hear you are having a bad time of it recently. Unfortunately the tonic water advice is not good advice. It is as you say the Quinine in it (although the amount of Quinine in tonic water is too miniscule to be of any help) that is used to treat cramp . However cramp and RLS are two completely different conditions. RLS is Neurological but cramp is muscular. .Painkillers can be helpful for RLS as they work on the urge to move as well as pain so maybe your doctor would prescribe some for you. It has to be opiate based, the mildest of them is Co - Codamol but it may not be strong enough, the next one up strength wise is Codeine, then Tramadol. I hope you find something to help you and good luck with your treatment. .Pipps x

You will be very lucky if it works. Sorry to be negative but ask your Doctor for specific rls medication.

majorie2,

There is never a reason to be as miserable as when you are in the middle of RLS and sleep won't come and you are really tired from walking the floor and eating too much and falling asleep at bad times.

You must find a medicine that will relieve your symptoms and let you sleep no matter what other illnesses or conditions you have. I have survived cancer 4 times already. Can anything i do make it any worse. I think not. mayo clinic did a study with RLS sufferers using codine in small doses and all the Rls patients got relief from the symptoms and with the proper dose none became addicted to the drug. Just a thought you might want to try it with you doctors help. Most doctors don't give a rip about RLS thinking it is just a minor annoyance instead of a reason many people kill themselves just to end the feeling permanently. I know, I have been on the edge of all the above in my lifetime.

I understand that, you really must find something to help. I have had to do all the reserch myself . the sad thing is I know more about it than the Dr's. They need to start taking it seriously,

Yes Tonic water is good but you need a large mug of it .keep looking on this post and see what others are taking , The doctors differ on what they give you . drinking lots of water helps to .a new remedy came on the net yesterday a block of Lavender soap near your feet at night in bed , havnt tried this yet so cant comment really worth a try .
