I have never had RLS diagnosed, however I am 99.9% sure that I have it...

I mainly get it when I am tired, but sometimes I get it sat at my desk at work. I am constantly moving my legs around or clenching my muscles, its awful. I get a feeling in my legs and I have t move them about.

Does this sond like RLS?.

Hi Chezza, it certainly sounds like RLS to me. I have primary RLS, which means that it hasn't come on as a result of trauma or medication, and in fact I was born with it. I'm lucky in that for the most part it doesn't bother me too much, leastways not enough to see a doctor about it, but there are people on here who are so affected they take medication. I'm currently on tramadol for sciatica, and that's also helping with my RLS, although it's horrendous if I don't take the tramadol.

For me I find RLS is something I have to manage myself, but if it's having a severe effect on your lifestyle and stopping you from sleeping then I'd suggest seeing your GP.

Good luck.

Yes, it sounds like a basic explanation of RLS to me. Time to contact your doctor and get some help. When you get to the point the you are looking it up on the internet, it is time to see someone about it. Just going to give you some more to read. The following web site is run by one of the foremost researchers and practitioners of RLS. ;) Do not know if you are from the UK or not, but RLS is a universal thing, and this web site is a good place to read others' stories, plus see the treatment page. On the treatment page, there is a list of Drugs to Avoid, which is VERY important, it is also available on the RLS-UK site. Even over the counter meds can make RLS worse, so it is a good place to start. rlshelp.org is Dr. Buchfuhrer' site. Lots to read.

Hi Chezza

The International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group (IRLSSG) has proposed a set of RLS diagnostic criteria - the fifth of these criteria was recently added. Diagnosis of Restless Legs Syndrome can be made if all of the five criteria are met.

The link is here:

rls-uk.org/#!diagnosis/c98c

Should you meet this criteria I hope you have a knowedgeable doctor regarding RLS. It may be a good idea to print some information out from this site and take it with you. There is also a section For Professionals which you may like to point out to your doctor as well if necessary.

Thank you Kaarina,

That is helpful. I do meet the critera. I will make an appointment to contact my Dr. I find it worse when I am watching TV in a tired state, or I am trying to sleep.

Thanks again

Chezza
