Pain comes and goes.

I was diagnosed with RLS 18 months ago currently on Ropinirole which works a treat during the night ( no more jumping legs and manage to sleep ).

However I do still suffer with daytime pain which can start anywhere from my buttocks right down to my toes, but mainly around the calf muscles, which in turn causes swelling on the shin is this normal?

I drive for a living and although I don't walk great distances in my daily job I feel like I've walked the length of Britain.

I also suffer with tiredness around lunchtime despite having a good nights sleep. The pain comes and goes although the most I seem to go without a day with no pain is upto 3 days if I'm lucky.

Can anybody else familiarise with this?

Hallo there. I do recognise your problem. Ropinirole works for me during the night but I also get pain during the day. To be honest, you hsve to find which pain killer suits you and stick with it. You will learn your own pattern of pain and treast accordingly. I'm afraid the t

iredness is a side effect of ropinirole but I prefer that to the RLS and lack of sleep Good luck

Hi there , I can relate to the pain. I get soreness even burning in my hip joint, and the pain that is in my knee, down my shin and into my right foot is unreal. I am on pramepexole which is good for the irritability, but does nothing for the pain. My right ankle swells, so I end up taking cocodamols which only last about a hour but at least it's 1 hour pain free. Hope you find something that works for you . If you do please share what it is. Thanks, cheers Jimeka

Good morning and Oh Yes!!!! Morphine is my daily helper, keeps my body numb so I can function as best I can, the downside is being tired. No real danger of being an 'addict' if you are honest with yourself and use it for pain and not getting any highs. My level has not increased for over 4 years so you can manage Morphine. Yes I couldn't just stop it, I would have to slowly reduce over time but thats not addition, just that my body has got used to the drug similar to many many drugs we have to take.

My defence was quick coz so many folk worry about taking such meds as Morphine and I want you all to know its very possible to manage well and get pretty good relief as it not only numbs the pain but also a lot of the 'jumps' etc.

Kindest

Sweetheart you maybe in the start of fibromyalgia. I have both and many people with RLS go onto have fibromyalgia later in life. You should get tested. Hope this helps!!! xxx Mitzi

What draws you to conclude this ? What are the symptoms etc etc and what is the test?

Well, I had to go to a pain clinic in 2004. While talking with the doctor he told me that lots of his female patients with fibromyalgia told him this. You can google it also. The symptoms vary. I really was shocked when my gp tested me for the fibro as I really didn't know how many tender points I had until she pressed on them. Here's the list of my symptoms but mind you they don't all start at once, they occur over time: Fatigue, aches and pains which can move around your body....usually this happens a little later on. Also trouble concentrating, trouble sleeping, bad muscle cramps in the legs, irritable bowel syndrome, forgetfulness, your body can start to reject medicines, and sometimes foods you used to use or eat. I'm now allergic to adhesive and many drugs I use to take. Some of us have tiny red spots on our skin and upon scratching they are really tiny blisters that take forever to heal, Sort of a phantom pain in arms and legs as if you are being bitten or stung by a bee. This usually only happens in the warmer weather. Like I said not all of these things happen at once, thank the Lord. I started having signs especially of the fatigue in my late 20's but some get it as young as 15. It's manageable if you have a compassionate doctor and get into a pain clinic when it gets bad. My biggest trouble now is my neck, shoulders, and the lower back of my head has indescribable tension. I can't relax for the life of me. I couldn't even lay my head down on a pillow for 6 months until I was seen at the pain clinic. Your symptoms sort sounds like the way I felt in the beginning. I hope you don't have it but it's better to know than think you are going bonkers. The RLS is enough to deal with but at least the pain med's do help that also. If I can answer anymore questions I'd be glad to. Hope you find some relief sweetheart!!! xxx Mitzi
