I have had that for a while. And a sore tongue generally. I haven't been to my GP because he doesn't have a clue about Scleroderma so am waiting for my next appointment with the rheumatologist.

I suspect it's part of the syndrome. I have had a sore tongue before, but it has settled down to looking a healthy (!) pink all over. I definitely avoid chilli, ginger, curry, minty toothpaste, alcohol, in fact anything which stings it.

I have had a sore, red tongue for a month and, as I am under the Eastman dental hospital for my scleroderma, I asked the consultant when I was up there last week. He says it could be because of the scleroderma as it can cause nerve damage in the tongue. He has done some blood tests to see if I am lacking any minerals and vitamins but as yet I don't ha e the results. The Eastman dental hospital have been very helpful and take scleroderma very seriously so, I don't know whether you live near London, but maybe a good idea to get your rheumatologist to refer you to them. Good luck and I hope the tongue feels better soon.

I have had what looks like a red blob on the end of my tongue for sometime now which can get quite sore, but my rhumatologist hasn't really said anything about it. I now go to a private dentist as had to have lot of work done earlier this year, scleroderma related, and they are now monitoring it. In the summer I keep well clear of ice cream and cold drinks, but I have to admit my tongue does seem worse in the winter.

hello, yes I also have a permanent sore tongue, it is red and quite pitted at the tip. I attend the Dental Hospital in Leeds where they take Scleroderma and it's related Sjorgens seriously. I have been given Nystatin oral susp. to get rid of the thrush and Betnesol dissolving tabs which help the soreness, use various gels and oral sprays and drink lots of water. I also avoid spicy and salty foods and fizzy drinks which are all too painful on my mouth. You need to see someone who really understands Scleroderma.

It was a dry mouth and sore tongue and mouth for a couple of years that drove me to the doctor a year ago and the diagnosis was limited Scleroderma. Have Raynauds for years . The mouth is worse at times but can get a few weeks fairly comfortable if I sip a lot of water and avoid anything which will trigger it like spicy foods , salt....etc. Sometimes even the roughness of toast will set it off.
