Does anyone have a pressurised choking feeling at the bottom of their throat above the nape of their neck?

It is usually followed by swelling of the lips or face and neck accompanied by patches and burning.. I have Pbc, scleroderma (including raynauds and lung disease), Sjogrens and psoriasis. Anyone know what it's related to?

Hi,

I'm not medically qualified but it sounds like an allergic reaction (I get this with strawberries and endives)

You need to talk to your GP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because it sounds like you are very allergic to something and one day you could go into anaphylactic shock if undiagnosed. I think it's likely caused by something you are eating or taking but, as I said, I'm no expert.

In the meantime, the following is a quick way of testing food withput actually eating it. Take a small amount of the food and rub it gently on the inside of your bottom lip and wait. If your body does not like it, you will start to feel ill or get your symptoms - takes less than 1 min for me. It has the advantage that you don't digest the food so any reaction is temporary. I was told this by a friend who spends weekends in woodlands living off the land. It works for me (I'm wheat intolerant and it detects wheat in things like ice-cream). I have no idea if there is any scientific basis. It is not a replacement for a diagnosis by your GP.

Hope this helps,

Nicola

Thanks I'll try the food thing.. Went to docs he said nothing obvious take antihistamines. He's sending to Immunology for further testing. It may be linked to one of my conditions.. Thanks Nicola :-)

I have scleroderma and also lymphoma. Following treatment with Rutuximab as a single agent last year I still had problems not unlike you what you described despite the fact thst my lymph nodes had reduced considerably. The symptoms I had been experiencing in my neck etc were down to secondary Sjrogrens. I'm having more Rituximab shortly to treat this. Mine is pretty exceptional I know but you need to refer to a good rheumatologist. It took them over a year to diagnose me.
