I get pain and stiffness in my fingers because I have Raynaud's disease. You need to be diagnosed to know what to do. Try the doctor, it may surprise you.

Hi

I have raynauds and scleroderma...I been having the same problem for the last six months...my fingers are stiff and lock the same as you describe...they also feel thick and I have difficulty making a fist and gripping items...I have recently been reviewed by an occupational therapists who has given me some pressure hand garments to wear to reduce the swellings and I have a pair of hand splints to help keep my fingers straight....these are helping a little...try to seek an opinion from a rheumatologist and you will hopefully get a diagnosis and the correct treatment...take care.

Until you've seen a doctor, you might find that Ibuprofen (the 400mg tablets) can help, because it's anti-inflammatory. I also find that bathing regularly in a solution of Epsom Salts keeps skin soft and helps flexibility. I'm now experimenting with drinking daily honey and cider vinegar in hot water ( I've seen it recommended by an Arctic explorer, so who knows, it might help!).

I have ulcers in my fingers . Can I use the solution of epsom salt to soak them?

Ooh, not sure. I just use them like ordinary bath salts because they soften my skin and help with the aches and pains. I don't have any ulcers at the moment. You could ask a pharmacist - chemists stock small canisters of them and there are bigger packs in some Health stores.
