Putting RA into remission getting off the drugs.

Hello I have been diagnosed with RA for about 2 years now. I have been on Plaquinel (hydroxyquinolone) pardon the spelling. I have been doing a lot of research on how to put RA into remission with out drugs. I came across Diatomaceous earth which seems promising in putting RA into remission. Has anyone else heard of this or tried it?

I have heard of Diatomaceous Earth to sprinkle around the yard to kill fleas. It is the Food grade variety that is supposed to work on killing fleas.

Are you supposed to ingest the DE for RA?

You can yes... As long as it is good grade. And like you, I use it on my plants, not so much for fleas, but for those that eat my veggies and herbs. It is better than putting something like Roundup around...

For me it is all in the food you eat, end of story. Research, improve your diet and listen to your body. Some changes can make a clear improvement others may take time to show the benefits. But you are what you eat and altering diet is a much cheaper path than taking a range of supplements. And anyway we all have to eat & drink.

Top dietary changes for my body include removing grains & gluten, dairy, fats & oils and nightshade plants as part of a whole food plant based diet strategy. These days RA is largely an annoyance. I am not clear of RA yet but it is clearly going...

Hi Andyswarbs - I agree that diet is a major component to almost everything in our health sphere. it is hard to give up some of the things we love. We gave up most carbs last fall and it has made a positive difference in us...

Scientific research has show the casein in cheese makes it very addictive. Add to that the high salt and fat content in cheese and it is almost impossible for people to give it up.

It took me nearly three months to wean myself off it entirely. I put down some of my initial depression down to my attempts to wean myself off of it when I started the process. I clearly remember initial feelings of what on earth do I do to create a satisfying dinner!

Hi andyswarbs, I definitely agree diet has a major impact - I've experienced it myself (both positive and negative, depending on my level of diligence!). I'm curious, you say your RA is now largely an annoyance - are you taking ANY pharmaceuticals or have you achieved your level of remission strictly with diet? Thanks, and Happy New Year!

I take 12.5mg methotrexate and will continue to do so until my CRP levels are normal. I have discussed this with my wife, rheumy and doctor. My monthly blood test shows that I am heading the right direction on all indicators.

I follow the paddison program, which emphasises a very personal diet selected through elimination and starting with just juicing cucumber and celery. That starting point not only cleanses the body but also will show most people that zero foods means zero pain, consequently the realisation that it is foods and food combinations that are bringing pain back.

Running through the elimination process is not an easy one since, as I clearly remember, adding any foods back in caused pain & inflammation. But by being very careful about the process eventually "basic" foods became safe. I ran a very detailed spreadsheet of all the foods I was consuming to help me monitor my reactions.

The paddison program emphasises the critical importance of cardio-vascular exercise in recuperation. I began my intense exercise regime in October. Before that some reactions to foods or stress or whatever took me right down to remind me of my worst moments. Since starting my exercise regime those worst moments have receded into the distance as a very bad memory.

My regime is based on at least four days a week doing 90 minutes of bikram yoga. My first session I could hardly walk into the studio and needed two people to help me to the floor for the floor exercises and get back up vertical. Incredibly embarrassing and I cried so much over it inside myself! However now I can get up and down by myself using the wall to help me and I can even do some of the balancing poses.

Outside Bikram I can walk at a normal pace many days instead of my usual RA-induced snail's pace and generally feel normal life is resuming.

Hi Nakkita - I wouldn't say that it can put anyone into remission for RA, although I think it does do a lot of good things, and can probably help strengthen your bones. Here is a website with more information: diatomaceous.org/

We affectionately call it 'dirt' and I've been using it for about 10 years for a variety of reasons. I use it every other day or so in 8 ounces of water - stirred well. (MAKE CERTAIN you get organic food grade... ) I use it primarily for candida and heavy metal control, along with Bentonite clay (organic food grade), and zeolite (organic food grade - common theme, huh?). I thought at one point that maybe my RA was actually a heavy metal problem, but my last lab test showed no heavy metals at all, so result there! I DO Know that my osteopenia has resolved itself, and much of that is probably due to the dirt because of the heavy silica content. I also use it for toothpaste to help keep my teeth mineralized as much as possible with the meds I am on. So far it seems to have worked pretty well.

A couple of words of caution: If you decide to try it, start very small - like almost anything it seems like, it will detox you and send you into a herx reaction. I would start with something like 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon in water until you adjust to it. I take a couple of tablespoons at a time. Second, do NOT get it in your eyes, or ever inhale it. It is made of small sharp silica shards and it will hurt a lot..

While I am doing better with my RA, I don't know that it is due to the DE... It is probably a combination of things..Hope that makes sense?

I am planning to use DE as well as start a vegan diet as well as exercise more and do yoga and chiropractic adjustments. So yes this will be just part of the many things I am willing to do in order to prevent the possibility of going blind on Plaquenil. If you have any thing else I can also try please let me know I am already short-sighted and really do not want to go blind!

Maybe some eyebright capsules. Dr. John R. Christopher's company sells them, and they are miraculous for healing eyes. I have Sjogren's and it has help tremendously with that. I don't think it will do much for shortsightedness though.. Mine is scratches and dryness in the eyes. Try a reasonable dose of vitamin a too if you are not taking it. Also, you can try Minocycline (maybe) and I don't know much about low dose Naltrexone, but others on here swear by it as a remedy. Whichever way you decide to go, best of luck

So a month has passed with me going Vegan and I have no (0) pain! I drink a warm cup of cashew milk with turmeric and cinnamon before bed. I feel like myself again and I'm very happy!

Hi, I am curious. I was told tumeric and RA meds don't mix well and was wondering if this is true. I have had alot of people tell me to try tumeric but was scared because of the potential of messing with my RA drugs. Thanks

I don't trust doctors at all!!!! My rheumatologist said to me that nothing I do with diet will help me and I proved him wrong in only one month and two weeks of going vegan! He lied to my face and said that MEDS are my only option. This is sad! I am living proof that diet does allow one to get off meds for good! I just took less and less and just stopped taking meds altogether. The medical and pharmaceutical industry in the US are scammers and are only interested in making money.

I hope you stay in remission. As for proving your doctor wrong, I wouldn't hold my breath. RA can fluctuate. I do hope that you are one of the lucky few and it "just disappeared'. Long may your remission last.

Very understandable how mistrusting physicians surfaces. Difficult to regain trust if you think you've been 'lied to'. 😳 🙃

I'm wondering if it's not 'intentional lying' but merely that dietary considerations are just not a big enough part of their medical training/ educational system. That is, maybe they've been taught/ indoctrinated "Diet's not connected to RA"? 😯 (Merely 'speculating' aloud. 🤔 )

I trust my physicians & continue to work with them — with the understanding that they've been trained in a different 'system' — belief system?

If what we put in our mouth helps us feel better — no matter what physicians 'say or believe' — then so be it. 🙏

Nothing anyone else 'says or believes' changes the experience we are having. 👍

From what I've read on forums (over time), some folks just don't have the same degree of improvement/ fortune. Don't understand the 'how/ why' — perhaps degree/ advancement/ progression of disease in each individual? 🤔 Don't know . . . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aside thought 🤔 :

Our physicians are useful for monitoring though. With bloods, x-rays, physical exams, yada yada yada . . . they've access to 'the tools' (& the knowledge) that monitor any disease progression/ remission. 👍 And, they've a deep understanding of anatomy, etc., so can assess if something's 'going awry'. 😳 🙃

Perhaps thinking of 'their process' as a 'checks & balance' ⚖ to ensure nothing goes 'off the rails' over time? 🤔

have heard of Diatomaceous earth for gardening but not for injesting. what a tea made of it or pill from health food store? I have the CREST form and hate to take the 4 large pills 2 twice a day of 500mg a piece they really suck and has to be on empty stomach that upsets me have the time still.
