Please suggest some home remedy or food remedy to reduce pain and swelling. I don't like steroids and NSAIDs.

Someone please suggest.

I feel your pain, but have no suggestions on home remedies, sorry. Wishing you good luck on a quick recovery. I take Celebrex and am currently tapering from Prednisone.

Thank you very much....

Hi Sbp - There are a couple of options, but keep in mind that herbal remedies work more slowly, usually, than pharmaceuticals. My Natural Market mynaturalmarket.com) has several alternative pain control options. If you are interested, I also made some homemade analgesics and anti-inflammatories that work pretty well, but again, they are slower than allopathic drugs. I can send you the formulas, but they require a variety of herbs that most people don't have. Additionally, there are several Essential Oils that will help. For example I make a pain control oil with EV Coconut oil, peppermint, lavender, clove and rosemary essential oils. you can also add some ginger, spruce, and wintergreen. It works pretty fast, but doesn't last as long. Of course, unless you are allergic to any of these, there are generally no side effects, but check to be sure. Finally, you can make or buy cayenne oil, which brings heat to the area, so it feels better, as well as bringing blood to the surface for quicker healing.

Don't know if any of this helps, but they are some of the things I personally do..

Is there a certain kind of cayanne oil you recommend?

Not really - I just look for one with organic coconut or other carrier oil (jojoba, EVOO, etc.), and organic cayenne. You can make your own - I found this recipe and it is pretty close to what I have done myself, but I can't have the turmeric so I would skip that part.

organiclifestylemagazine.co... He say:

In 3 cups of olive oil, mix together 4 tablespoons of ground cayenne, 4 tablespoons of turmeric, and 4 tablespoons of ground ginger. Stir until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and then cook over low heat (or use a double broiler with medium heat) for approximately 10 minutes. Add 1/2 cup of beeswax and stir until the beeswax has melted. Remove from heat as soon as the ingredients are blended well (Optional, but highly recommended: add 4 ounces of DMSO). You may also use coconut oil instead of beeswax. Chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes and then whisk the concoction thoroughly, Finally, refrigerate for another 20 minutes. If not already in glass, transfer cream to a glass jar with a sealed lid and store in the refrigerator. The cream stays potent for about 3 weeks. Apply as needed for pain, but with this cream, rub in as much as you can and then let it dry before rinsing off. Warning: The turmeric stains badly! You can make this recipe without the turmeric and it still works very well (it’s just more powerful with turmeric).

Good luck - I make my own and use it all of the time - it works well for pain. Just know that it stains even without the turmeric ;-)

I quit all Pharm meds and take ginger and Tumeric. I also cut down on processed foods. It takes a few months to notice the difference but I did. I was usually 6-8 on the pain scale. Now I hover at 3-4 which is very bearable compared to the misery I was in. You have to experiment and see what works for you. I take the ginger in the morning and Tumeric in the evening with supper because it's fat soluble. I use ice on my major pain points for a minimum of 20 mins. It helps tremendously as well. Hope you can find what works for you! Keep fighting!!

Hi ShannonMFG - You can also do what my hubby does with the turmeric (I am very allergic to it so I avoid it): He gently melts some EVCO (extra virgin coconut oil), then adds ground black pepper and turmeric to it because the EVCO helps it assimilate (as you said, fat soluble), and the black pepper is estimated to increase the effectiveness of the turmeric by some factor like 10,000%. He lets it set up again and then takes it with some warm water. It is pretty hot though from my understanding ;-)

I take the meds, but my RA doc told me to cut gluten out of my diet and dairy as much as possible. I don't take steroids anymore though. I refuse! I can tell a slight difference with the diet change, but I also stopped working. Also, This didn't work for me, but a friend's wife started using Knox gelatin daily and it helped her significantly. Ice packs help me when I have a lot of swelling and pain. Good luck and pray you find relief!

I am with you on not wanting to take the steroids & NSAIDs. I recently began "golden milk" tumeric, ginger, pepper, coconut oil & coconut milk- recipe is easy to find online. I also add cinnamon & a dash of cayenne & I do feel better after starting it. I will say I am on a DMARD; although it has not resolved my symptoms as well as when I started the golden milk & gluten free diet.

I eat a vegan and gluten free diet, years before RA. There is a study linking these diets to reduced inflammatory levels in RA. To be honest, my diagnosis was delayed because of my low inflammatory markers and I was in a ton of pain until medicine, so I don't know how helpful it is. Weird remedy for soothing-they make kids packets to turn baths into slime. It feels awesome.

My rheumatologist suggested eating only veggies and fatty fish. I did it for two months and was pain free. However, I moved away from it and and am now experiencing pain. A tough diet to follow, but feel I need to give it another try. He also said to stay away from night shades - potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. I find these to cause inflammation. I have heard people talk about the paddington program and functional eating. I'm looking into both of these now.

Good luck.
