Week 14 - negatives and positives.

I'm in week 14 now. I expect at some point I will stop counting but it seems necessary for now. I'm still using my e stick. I have re named it e stick because it isn't a cigarette and I want to get away from my association with those things. I haven't put any pressure on myself to stop using the e stick because as far as I am concerned this would not help me in any way. Besides, my usage seems to be declining anyway as the liquid lasts for longer and I don't need to charge it up as much as when I first started using it.

Since the last time I blogged here I've noticed the following.

On the negative side, I hate the smell of tabacco smoke. I really, really hate it. Some might say that that is a good thing but I still know a lot of people who smoke and also encounter other smokers when out and about so I can't really avoid it. In my job, I sometimes have to visit people in their homes and if they are smokers it can be difficult. I hope it will be less problematic in the future because I have a couple of friends who smoke in their homes and I can hardly tell them not to because of my needs. Well I could tell them but it would make them feel very uncomfortable around me. If it comes to it I guess I could wear a mask. You see, now I have stopped contaminating my own personal space I've become acutely aware of how much I was contaminating other peoples personal space. I even notice the smell out in the open far more than I had thought I would. I actually apologised to my younger son for exposing him to my cigarette smoke for years. I hadn't realised just how bad it was until my older son visited and smoked inside the house. It took 4 days to get rid of the smell. I never realised before. I had never been able to get myself to smoke outside the house. Anyway I've banned my older son from smoking in the house and have to say that he has been really good about it. He is also less of a smoker than I was.

A positive is that as a result of not smoking in my house, there is less dust. I bought a steam cleaner and am going mad cleaning anything that I can. I'm also planning to decorate the whole house. This will promote a lot more positives, I'm sure. For one thing, some exercise, because even though I haven't been eating any more than I did before I gave up, I have put on about 7lbs in weight. I think this is fairly normal and I'm not worried about it because I can feel my energy levels improving so hopefully I'll lose that weight fairly easily.

Well that is it for this particular blog. I could go on, as I am a chatterbox, but I'll write more another time.

Enjoy the rest of the day. I'm off to steam clean the downstairs loo...lol.

Hello Sally

Really, really chuffed that you've attained 14 weeks - that's 3.1/2 months which is amazing. If you need the e-stick and it works for you then that's fine and as you rightly say your use of it is diminishing all the time.

Know exactly what you mean about the smell as my hubby still smokes but outside as we both always did but when he comes in the 'stink' not to put too finer point on it is overpowering.

I have been thinking of getting a steam cleaner but there are so many on the market - spoilt for choice I suppose but is yours good (which is a bit of a stupid question really but hey ho it is Sunday so brain on a day off and what make is it? Any advice would be appreciated as would want it like you for anything and everything!

The positives of not smoking far outweigh the negatives - better a bit of extra weight which will shift in a very short space of time than smoking. I'm a bit further back than you but already feel the benefits of not partaking of them things!

Have a rest of a nice day and don't work too hard!

Hi guys,

Thanks for your nice comments.

I have been using a hand held steam cleaner Kath. I had one for floors but I broke the handle when I got a bit carried away..lol. As I want to decorate it has been really useful for cleaning paintwork, etc.

I am chuffed jillygirl. I never thought I would be able to but I have and at least one other person I know has also given up as a result ofmy success so I'm chuffed about that too.

I certainly will Pete. It cleans windows to so as it really is beautiful weather here now I'm going to start on the windows next.
