Well ive been up 1/2 an hour on the first day of what I am determined is my last quir attempt! I coughed so much I was nearly sick this morning (a gentle reminder that this is soooo the right thing to do!) Quite busy today but will pop in and out of the group. Have a great day everyone! Jo x

Cravings lead to irritation and sometimes panic, causing the quitter’s mind to speed up. When this occurs, concentrating becomes hard. Using a deep breathing exercise is an effective way of calming yourself down.

This exercise can be done anywhere from sitting down in a chair to waiting for a bus. Follow the simple stages described below;

With your mouth closed and shoulders relaxed, inhale deeply and slowly to the count of eight.

As you breathe in, push your stomach out.

Hold your breath for the count of four.

Breathe out slowly to the count of eight.

Repeat the cycle five times

DO NOT OVER DO IT – STOP IF YOU FEEL DIZZY

Ha ha I've tried this a few times and it worked for me, erm as I breath in I want to pull my stomach in not out :D :D so trying to do that takes my mind off things :)

Cant believe day 1 is nearly over! Its been a good day actually with no stressing about when Im going to get my next fag (daughter been at home as teacher training day!). I have throughly enjoyed just going with the flow ;-) xx

Well done Jojo, I finally stopped at age of 54 and am smoke free for over 8 weeks now, using champix. U will soon notice benefits to your skin and a decreasing in the cough. Are you using anything or going it alone? I found the quit pack i got from the NHS very helpful, especially the daily calendar that takes you through the first four weeks.

So proud of all us quitters!

Wow, 8 weeks! I wonder how I will feel after 8 weeks?!!! Well done you :-) Im nearing the end of day 2 and apart from a couple of minor meltdowns today, im doing OK! Determined not to start again this time :-) xx
