I wanted to stop smoking but thought I was weak ..

If this method helps any of you I would like to share it with you. I bought a book called Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking ... I thought I'd give it a go because I did want to stop smoking. Basically just by reading the book it makes you feel like stopping smoking is a good thing .... that you're not actually giving anything up. It reverses the brain washing that you think you actually enjoy smoking. You can also smoke all the time why you are reading the book too. I bought my copy off ebay so I'm not plugging buying a new copy or anything. Something clicked and I started from day one of stopping feeling good about my decision .. I am now a happy non'smoker who didn't have to suffer with willpower or patches method .. smoked since I was 13 years old ... now 41 ... and smoked my last fag 27th Feb .... just a thought .... this method may help you too.

Thanks for sharing wonder......I stopped in February also, but I still want a cigarette....did you get the cravings after you stopped? I will try reading the book, but I cant see how it will actually stop the cravings for nicotine.....

You have already stopped smoking, you are free from the nicotine monster in your tummy (unless you are still using patches etc) ... you just need to get rid of the monster in your head ... I know it sounds crazy but it really did work. The mind just needs to realise you have no cravings ... they are all in your head .. and with a different mindset ... you will be totally free. People believe "giving up" smoking is hard because they've tried before and failed ... and don't realise that they are addicted to nicotine and not the smoking. I still think and dream about smoking, I know what my triggers would have been .. and then I just remind myself how great it is to already be a non smoker. Keep an open mind ... try the book ... you've already done so well ... it would be a shame to crack cos you are using the will power method. Let me know in a week or two if it helps. Take care and i knew what my cravings were but it was no more than a hunger or a little rumbling in my tummy ... where previously I would have yelled ... thrown something ... gone nuts whilst stopping....oh and previously trying the willpower method ...any excuse I would go and buy a packet of fags ... and think that's it I'm weak and can't stop.

I had already given up smoking when the book was recommended to me. I purchased a copy from amazon and haven't looked back. The book really helped and gave me a different mindset and made me feel very positive. My only regret is that I had never heard of this book until recently.

Me too ... I have no idea why doctors and NHS quit services do not recommend such a easy cheap and effective method. Wish i'd of read the book in my 20's and not £17,000 later :)

ok...the book it is then.....thanks for that......I realise it is in my head....Im using the nicotine spray but only about twiice a day, so hoping to stop that, its a terrible taste and gives me hicups and heartburn.....will let you know how I get on....thanks once again ....

Hi Linda, the spray can give you the hiccups and heartburn - in fact it's quite common to get hiccups. A lot of people spray into the back of the mouth which then irritates the throat and causes the hiccups.

One tip that has been recommended is;

1. Give the spray a really good shake.

2. Swallow any excess saliva in mouth.

3. Either a) Put tip of finger in mouth to pull cheek away from teeth and spray or b) Spray under your tongue.

4. If possible, try not to swallow for at least 30 seconds to give spray a chance to be absorbed into mucus membrane

Ideally you want to release a spray rather than a squirt! This can be achieved by giving your product a good shake.

I hope my explanation is understandable :-)

Allen Carr's book really is worth a read. If anything, it will also keep you occupied...

Not sure its entirely appropriate to be giving advice on how to use the nicotine spray to make it more pleasant to use. Surely someone who has given up since February should be encouraged to give up the NRT. After all NRT should not be used as a long term replacement for cigarettes but more as a short term aid to quitting. The lady in question stated that she was hoping to stop using the spray due to the side effects but now has been given advice on how to make the spray more pleasant which is surely missing the point. I thought the whole point of the forum was to encourage quitting smoking and to become nicotine free.

Maybe But if it helps why not still better than smoking I have not tried the spray i am on patches Any advice and support is better than none
