Hey Everyone ,

I quit smoking 2 months and 28 days ago. I’m starting to experience numb finger tips and hands. My hands really become numb at night when I lay down in bed... is anyone else having this Problem?

Hello Mrgetwell, welcome to quit support,Well done on starting to quit smoking. The answer to your question is yes it is common . They should settle down in a couple of weeks. Obviously get checked out with your doctor if it goes on for a lot longer.

Fatigue

Dry mouth

Nausea

Insomnia

Headaches

Sweating

Tingling in hands and feet

Coughing and sore throat

Increased appetite and associated weight gain (approximately 5 to 10 pounds)

Constipation

Cravings for nicotine

All these are common symptoms.

I will add you to our database and assign you a progress badge.

:) xx

Hello there Mrgetwell, yes tingling and numbness are common withdrawal symptoms which will decrease and stop over a period of time but if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact your doctor.

Hi I had the same when I stopped smoking and I found I had a borderline under active thyroid. I also had some other symptoms such as lethargy, hair loss, weight gain etc. I found out that smoking can either mask health issues or even cause them and thyroid is a common one. If you have symptoms of possible thyroid problems get yourself to a doctor and get checked out. x

Did you ever find answers or did the tingling stop? I'm having extremely painful tingling in my arms and hands (for the past week or so)

Hello Mrgetwell, I used nicotine lozenges like sweets for almost ten years. I’m already diagnosed with a thyroid problem (caused - I think - by the lozenges). I quit the lozenges about two months ago and now I too have, frankly terrifying pins and needles (v mild stabbing sensations in my hands) by day. At night I lose sensation altogether. The loss of feeling is worse in the ‘small fingers’ side of my hands and it is usually there on waking, even now if I nap by day. What is this? Is it a circulation or nerve ending problem? I asked my dr and he couldn’t care less, fobbing me off telling me it’s anxiety. Yes I may be anxious but with these symptoms I think anxiety is a legitimate response. I’m terrified I’m losing the strength and dexterity of my hands. This wasn’t really a problem when I was consuming 30 mgs of nicotine each day.

Mrgetwell and / or anybody else, if you can explain this I’d love to hear from you. Please! (Slight desperation.)

Hello SDD, it sounds very much as if you are maybe having withdrawal symptoms from the nicotine.

Have a looked at the pinned posts which you will find either to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending on your device. There you will find lots of useful information on withdrawals and anxiety.

So that we don't miss you SDD please write a new post rather than adding to an old post which can get missed.
